Well, I've been a guest at ArcadeControls.com for quite a while while I was researching Mame cabinet ideas. Now that I've just finished my cabinet I thought that I'd join up and post some pics of my triumph! Well, my cabinet is certainly not as flash as most of the cabinets I've seen here, but it is kind of unique in a rustic hillbilly kind of a way - maybe someone will find it interesting to look at. I even honoured it with its own website at:

Thanks for looking. Regards Brett

he! Thats pretty cool. I was wondering what the 4 metal point where for when i saw the first picture. But then i saw it was for easy rotating!
I think you did a good job. Its really a nice color wood. ;)
What is the marquee made of?
-
Hey thanks! The marquee is from a file I found on the Net, turned from blue to orange in photoshop, and sent to mamemarquees.com to get printed. It is sandwiched between two sheets of cut glass. I originally planned to use cupboard door handles on the bezel to rotate it, but gave up on that idea quickly when I found the small gold knobs at the hardware store. That was a lucky break, cupboard handles would have looked sucky.....

You're supposed to join before so that you can build up the suspense :)
Nice work mate! looks really retro! :afro:

Mmmmmm......suspense huh? How about this then: the next photo's I post might be of me chopping my cabinet to pieces with an axe.
Now will I or won't I? Stay tuned........ >:D

Good job! 8)
I was wondering about the button layout too.
-
Well.....I'm a bit embarrassed about the button layout. I decided on a group of six buttons because I wanted to make sure I had a button for all occasions, as I didn't know what games I was going to be playing. Then I had this crazy idea of adding the four black buttons to control some of the Mame options so I wouldn't have to use the keyboard very often. As it turned out I've only got three of the six coloured buttons connected up, and only one of the four black buttons connected; bottom line is half the buttons don't do anything...but one day they might! ???
The two red buttons on the left side are connected to the left/right on the joystick for games like Asteroids.

But seriously, don't do it...... ???

Nice job - did you use solid wood? If not, how did you get the nice end grain?

Particle board inner frame with a solid timber veneer consisting of six planks per side. I nailed and glued some thin hardwood moulding over the end grain; thin enough for it to bend around the top edge curve without breaking.
