Title: Arcade goodness in movies
Post by: Ummon on November 09, 2008, 12:40:56 am
Been watching a bunch of 80s movies lately and two that have some good scenes of arcades and machines are War Games (at about fourteen minutes) and Fast Times at Ridgemont High (opening credits - lots of close-up screen shots).

There's plenty more spots in [this (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=43851.0)] thread.

I only realised it cos it was randomly on Cable the other night, but there's a big scene where a guy gets shaken down in an arcade in Robocop 2. No super-special cabs, but plenty of late-80's machines on show. I think he puts the guys head throgh the screen of the rather cool 'Midnight Resistance'.

Back in '85 I was living in Tulsa and one afternoon while playing in the arcade at the mall, a movie crew came in and started filming. There was a guy that was giving out plenty of tokens to keep everyone playing and I spent mine on the stand up Star Wars & Galaga. Everyone that stayed had to sign a release to be filmed but I do not recall if the movie was ever released. It was supposed to be named "Wild " something.

The worst tease wasn't a movie for me but Silver Spoons...Damn Ricky (Rick) Schroeder and that arcade of his that had me drooling everytime it was on screen :(

I remember that. No doubt.

I ran across that a little earlier, but didn't know about it till then. It seems more a 'this game was in this movie' thing, rather than full arcade shots.

I watched that recently, too, and thought of posting on it, but remember that was '90, and I think all those cabs were fighters. No interest of mine so I didn't say anything.

They filmed Karate Kid down the freeway from me.  It was one of my favorite arcades back in the day.  It introduced me to crazy climber and spy hunter to name a few.  ... fond memories.

In the first Ninja Turtles movie, the "Foot Clan" has a base where it's essentially half arcade and half karate training centre. I think there's a NARC machine, though I haven't seen the movie in a while.
