Title: Video and photos from the Houston arcade expo 2008 by HAAG
Post by: retrometro on November 08, 2008, 07:19:47 pm
The fine folks at HAAG has put together another well planned retro arcade / pinball / console event.  It ends Sunday 2:00 a.m. Nov 9, 2008  (or late sat. night as some call it).  so if you're in east texas, you can still get there in time.  :-)

I'm not affiliated with the group at all but enjoyed playing old favorites on original gear.  Looking forward to 2009!

Damn. I forgot about this. I'll have to plan for next year. Great reason for a medium road trip.

 ProtoKatie:

Taito's   Ice Cold Beer.

You have two leaf joysticks which only go up or down.

They place a small metal ball on a metal rail to start the games round.

You control the rails angle by pressing the joys up or down.  The raises or lowers the
bars left or right side... which causes the ball to roll either left of right.

Your goal, is to raise the bar, guiding the ball into the proper hole that is lit up.

If your ball falls into any other hole, you will lose a life.

The first holes are easy cause they are near the bottom.  Hole #10 is at the top,
and so you have a lot of holes to avoid to get there.

The game is very difficult at first, because the ball moves very fast at the slightest
change in angles.. and most people tend to over-react... which makes things even
worse.   heh

The pics shown of the other ICB are the new remake of the game by a different
company.   However, the original is a much better looking game Imop.

There was also a version called Zeke's Peak... in which the artwork is different.
This was created because some locations didnt want to promote Beer to
children who might play the thing.  heh

Not at all what I thought. Sorta the reverse of Pachinko, except way slower. Doesn't look like there is a great deal of accuracy between the controls and the bar mechanism.

Im sure its one of those things you just have to get used to, also, the game looks old so may not be as smooth as it once was. Still, looks like a cool little game. I could easily see this still being played in bars. It just seems to fit that kind of environment.

Is there a software version of this game? Might be a nice addition to any MAME cab.

At least they should have made a pic of them playing the SW upright..........wait a minute, no that's not right.... ;D

Great pictures, thanks. Wish something like that would be around here....sigh.

Not sure what is tackier, the carpet or the LED prizes.....
