Title: do crt monitors have a starter/ballast?
Post by: AwesomeAlbert on November 08, 2008, 06:55:03 pm: i have a 19" crt computer monitor that wont turn on. It clicks like it wants to turn on but it cant and turns back off (yellow light turns green for a few seconds and turns back yellow). When i started having trouble with it I would click it on and off and after a few clicks it would stay on. Do crt monitors have something like floresent bulbs that it needs to start it and keep it on?? what would it look like? is it easy to replace? is it cheap to replace? Can i trade the part from a smaller monitor?? i wanted to ask the electronics experts on here to see if it could be saved before i trew it out.

yeah, i got this one on ebay last year for 8 bucks, it worked fine for a while...but if its an easy fix why not save it

Post by: MonMotha on November 09, 2008, 10:57:24 pm: Ticking generally indicates a power supply attempting to start up but shutting down due to a short. Check the horizontal output transistor; it is a common culprit (fails shorted).

Probably easier/cheaper to just chuck it and find a new one, though.
