Well, I am finally about to install a 4-way joystick @ the far top left of my control panel. In order to keep it all symmetric I should move my spinner to the exact same point in the control panel except on the far right side.
The only problem is my spinner was installed over a year ago & of course it is not symmetrical in opposition with where the new 4-way will be.
All my last arcades had folding cup holders mounted to the sides but due to the control panel overhang its not an option for my showcase.
Boy do I miss having an arcade that will hold my beer. :'(
Anyway, it hit me........ I can move the spinner to the far right to match the 4-way on the far left & then mount 2 recessed stainless steel poker style cup holders while effectively eliminating the old spinner hole & finally adding the cup holders I so dearly miss while being able to play a decent game of Burgertime with my new 4-way
So, what do you think, genius huh?
My GF said its going to be tacky so that's pretty much making it a done deal to just get them ;D but I wanted opinions from you guys.
I used paint, not photoshop so no laughing at the rough mockup ;)

trying... not... to laugh.... :banghead:
Ok seriously, I was considering something like adding cup holders but my CP is too small BUT even if it was bigger, I have to agree with your GF, it just doesn't look right on the panel.
I haven't found what I'm looking for but what I want to do is install 2 cup holders on the back side of the CP, it would resemble the old arcade CP ashtrays but this would be a cup holder.
Now, I have to admit with your type of pedestal CP, that might not be appropriate, but for those who have CP's that are wider than the cab itself, there's that perfect spot on either side for it, and that's what mine falls under.
Bah, doesn't matter what I or your GF thinks, it is YOUR cab after all, knock yourself out!

It's a shame to mount them in that beautiful CP.
I have the foldup plastic ones mounted on the side of my cab (yep, GREAT for your favorite beverage!)
What if you mounted a small block of wood (painted black) on the side to space them out from the overhang?
I agree that the stainless steel looks way cooler than the plastic ones, but just not in the CP.

Oh I dont know. I dont think it would look that terrible. The only issue is your gonna be making two pretty big holes if for some reason in the future you need to redo the panel. Tell you what, cup holders are the one thing my cab is desperately missing. I need to get some mounted ASAP! Right now I'm setting the drink on the other bar stool but when there are 2 players obviously that doesnt work.

I agree that it would be a shame to put huge holes in that nice panel. I don't think asymmetry is bad--it won't mess up your panel.
I'm a fan of the bicycle water bottle cages--get them @ any bike store. Cheap. They mount to a vertical surface, so they're out of the way: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=66908.msg677661#msg677661
I have the plastic folding cupholder in my Miata--I just don't trust it--then again, I pull more g-forces in my Miata than a typical cabinet sees...

Perhaps blue anodized aluminum (& yes I say that with a heavy American accent "Ahhhleeewwwmanum") would be more subtle?
I used fold downs on my last cabinet & they were great but again that just will not work on this machine :(
Like Flake I currently set my brews & sodas on a stool which is a disaster waiting to happen & not very conducive towards two drinking buddies playing Gaplus & punching the low scorer.
Miata, like this one?
