Title: AAARRRGGGHHH!!! major league problems with tv screen
Post by: evilfuzzle on November 07, 2008, 01:20:54 am
hey guys  ;D

I just plugged the tv for my arcade in via s-video and i booted her up and I noticed Several Problems right off the bat.

firstly: the screen flickers. i tried to change the refresh rate on it through windows but it will only do 60Hertz. is there an way to reduce the flicker of the screen?

2nd: the picture is off center and bent. i notice this happens when you move a crt pc monitor around but you can just change the picture using the buttons at the front of the screen. what can i do??

3rd: the tv lets off a high pitched noise. i realise that when it is against the wall (it has an open back) and has glass in front of it it will be substantially quieter but i dont think it with silence it enough.

thanks

1) Do you have an Nvidia or ATI card? Both of these company's drivers have settings to reduce flicker via the TV Out signal.  You can also adjust the contrast between light and dark which will assist with flickering.
2) You can try adjusting the picture again via the TV Out settings on your video card drivers. Nvidia for example allows you to change horizontal and vertical positioning and zoom.  THe other option but only recommended if you know what you are doing is to tweak the TV's service menu settings. I did this on my Sony CRT but only after downloading the service manual and ensuring I had all the default values documented.
