:'(
Some may remember my cab from a while back...well since then I have recently moved and realized that my measurments were off and now my cab is stuck in my parents basement instead of my new pad. :( It looks as if a few months of my blood and sweat is going down the drain.
:(

what are your bad measurements?
-
Sorry to hear that m8. But now you just got one more reason to visit your parents every single day :D And that's not bad at all, coz as we all know, mummys cooking is the best around :D
-
OH man..unfortunate :(.
I remember your cab...how can you forget that panel ;D.
Any way you can disassamble the cab?
then you take it like that..I would break the damn door yo.
seriouslly...I want my cabinet..btw my new cabinet comes in 2 pieces so I wont face problems like this..EVER ! :D
-
Well the cab itself will fit up the stair well...I made sure of that before construction. What I didn't take into consideration was that I have to make a sharp turn before going up the steps. Disassembling the cab isn't even an option. I filled all screw holes so I would basically have to take a saw to it.
Good news snaake...the cp is removable. So the most important part is still with me. :) Hopefully this summer I'll gather up enough change to build a new cab. I learned soo much from building this one that I am really eager to jump into another project. I know I can make the new one 100% better.
-
Well, filled screw holes or not, that fine looking cab would be going with me. Ever hear of a saws-all? It's a jig saw on steroids. With a metal blade on/in it you might be able to get to the screws from the inside of the cab and cut them in half. I've used one to cut through 16d nails, rebar LARGE screws, ect... Just take it easy. Then reassemble the thing wherever you want. Maybe just plug the holes next time? ;D
-
Is it not possible to locate the filled holes? I would try to find them and drill them out. You can always refill and repaint.
I am planning on using cross-dowel connectors in my cabinet so I can break it down whenever I have a need.

Pleasedont hit me for sayng this but why dont u cutt the bottom off then re attach it? im sure putty and paint will make the cut invisible or is it the cp that wont let u turn? u might have to cut the cp off alltho when u moveout u have to do it again unless u made something diff which u could take apart maybe brackets that fold in?
-
I don't have any good solutions - only my "sorries" and...
that suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks :-\
-
That must have been one of those "Oh you GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!" moments when you tried to get it out of there... :(
Nice looking cab, but I think i agree with you, take the parts and make a new cabinet for it. Salvage what you can, and look at it as a new project...new projects always rock. At the very worst, cut the cabinet along the front, back and top (vertically), that way you can save the sides, which would be harder to rebuild than the front and back panels.
And always, measure twice, cut once ;)
-
Cut it (carefully) with a skilsaw at the mid point all the way around and convert it into a 2 piece design on the fly... should be possible with some creative engineering...
You'd have to probably add some braces to the 2 pieces after and a bit of trim to hide the join but it's definitely doable.
-
I feel your pain. I cant get the big cab I bought into my basement.
-
It's only CG... shouldn't it fit on to a CD or something (that's an old school joke) =P
I'm surprised it wouldn't fit... I'd take out a door frame and *make* it fit!
sorry to hear about that tragedy.... an orpaned cabinet... *sigh*

holy cow. madk's back! it's good to hear from you again. too bad it had to be under these conditions. what i would recommend doing with your next cab would be to use brackets or 2 by 2s to fit the corners together instead of just screwing the pieces to each other. i put mine together, took it back apart, took it downstairs, painted it, and eventually, i'll be putting it back together, but i'm not sure exactly where as of yet.

That's what you get for tempting fate.
Take a look at your marquee.

You asked for it. ;)

That's hilarious!!! ;D

Okay its not a BIG deal Madk...sad but you can always build another one :D.
Here I go with advice.
Since you have the panel Ready...there is no REAL worry about building another cabinet.
You can put something together in less then a week since you already have that panel and all the parts.
retainer,bezel,marquee,tv..etc etc.
Now I suggest you build the Ultimate arcade 2.
I just finished mine and thats some easy solution if you wanna move the cabinet.
Remove some bolts and screw and you have it. :)

LMAO....good one.
hmmm...I always wondered about that "1".
I guess I know by now.

I might be cheaper just to re drywall the corner that you can smash out with a sledge hammer!
Don't blame yourself... Blame your parents for not building better access from the basement!
And all in all... The control panel takes the longest anyway... but I would rip the old one apart. Take EVERYTHING out... monitor, bezel, anything thats easy to remove.
With the lighter weight... try it again... You might find that you can twist it better and try something else when it weights 1/10 the weight.
-
Treat your cabinet like the dead 2000lb guys... just destroy the ceiling (and roof) and airlift the f|_|cker out!
WOO!
Or dig into your front yard until you're next to the basement then crash through the wall like the Kool-Aid man and grab the cabinet and crash back out.

Crisco. Lots of Crisco. :'(

I'd be really concerned if anyone has that much Crisco laying around.....
*shudder*

Hah ramp I can't belive you remembered that! Funny stuff for sure.
It looks as if I will be building a new cab this summer. I've got to somehow top this one. I've got a few ideas up my sleeve.
In the meantime I'm restoring an old Red Alert cab that was given to me. I'll be hanging around the forums more often now. I building bug has hit once again.
Thanks for all the suggestions and I'll cya all around!
-madk
Here is my progress on the restoration. This thing looks like it was out in the rain for a few weeks. I had to peel up a few layers of ply and fill with wood filler. I swear when I'm done this thing will be about 75% wood filler. Ha...Oh well. This'll be my old school cab. Vert monitor and most likely a trackball too.

Yes I vaguely remember someone (Howard Casto?) said the panel must have been computer generated. Personally I'd take that as a compliment.
I don't suppose we could have some closeups of the control panel, it's one of the best around.

OH MAN..I SOOOOOOO cant wait to show my new one..its just like madk's :D.
Seriouslly..just that I was kinda REALLY busy lately with exams and shiz but hopefully this week I could launch the new site.
And madk,
you are really converting the cabinet(pic above) ?
why not build?
Sometimes you end up working more trying to *fix* a cabinet then building a new one. :(
just a thought :)
PS:I remember howard.... "hey man, level with me...the panel is FAKE !,LOL". :D

So far I've honestly gotten much more enjoyment out of refurbin the old cab. I feel like I am preserving the past. It was great popping that think open and still finding all the original paperwork and what not. Don't get me wrong tho...I will be building one this summer. I can't live without my 2d fighters. Right now I am just going to put my time into fixing this one up and use it for vertical monitor games.
Better pic of the cp -
