just wonder if you can fit a 16x pci-e vid card on a 1x pci-e slot, most likely not.... its just that someone sells me a ati pci-e card that looks to be 16x and my pci-e slot its a 1 x , dont wanna buy something i wont use.
Thanks for the help.

You can put a 1x in a 16x (a 2x, 4x, and 8x would also fit), but a 16x won't physically fit in a 1x.
Sometimes if you "make it fit" by removing the back of the socket, it'll work, but don't count on that, and it involves maiming (as opposed to mameing) your PC.

I haven't even SEEN a PCIe x1 video card.

There are a few out there. They are mostly low-end ATi stuff intended for people who want more than 2 heads on their machine but don't need stellar gaming performance on the extra monitors and/or lack a second PCIe 8x/16x slot.

There was talk of an open ended pcie 1x slot to allow for this, but I have never seen one in the flesh.
look for a quadro NVS card, they have 1x ones of those, but they cost a bit since they are made for share traders and other people that think they look important putting 4 monitors on their desk at work. Craptastic 3d support as well. Will barely run aero.
