I saw Visitor Q post his CP design/graphics and it made me think....
What MAME game do you think has the best attract mode graphics/sound?
I'll typically load up one of the Metal Slug games (so that one gets my vote)... but I'm sure that out of the 7000-something ROMs that are available in MAME, there are likely plenty of good ones that I've missed.

Marvel VS Capcon
-
+1 on Marvel vs Capcom
Mortal Kombat Series is another good one.
-
Several of the SNK fighting games (example: Last Blade 2).

1944: The Loop Master
Not sure about the sound, but I like the intro. Once at work, just before the holidays we were all working late and hooked that up to the conference projector - on that screen the intro animation was huge and it looked great (imagine an 8ft wide P-38). In between "working" we let the intro run - definitely one of my all time favorites.

SamuraiShodown2

Street Fighter the Movie.
You can basically watch the whole movie. JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME , haha, cracks me up when his name takes up the WHOLE screen.

hit start while fighting in the command center, and it plays a video clip of him flexing on the background screens

Quantum.
You can basically play the game for free in attract mode (within extreme limits)

These are really good... :applaud:

Though the art could've been better, I thought the X-Men attract sequence was pretty cool. Simpsons and TNMT as well.
-
I really like the X-Men, Simpsons and TNMT too, but Marvel vs Capcom is pretty darn cool! :afro:
(I was looking for an excuse to use cool and and afro man in the same sentence...... :laugh2:)

Stargate and Robotron have great attract modes.

You mean Afroman?

Taisen Hot Gimmick 3 Digital Surfing (Japan)
yes, it's a mahjong game, but the attract sequence is entertaining

I just set maximus arcade to randomly pick avi files from my emumovies folder. That way you can have tons!

Final Fight. Good little story montage, and the music kicks butt. ;D

It comes to mind that early games didn't often have sound(s) playing during attract mode, and it was a precarious thing, though in a way it made sense because it told you the game was ready to play. Indeed in the early days, if there was too much going on we would watch often as we'd play, at least until the attract was familiar. Definitely by the late 80s this had changed, because it was more attracting I guess to the younger generation who were used to more noise in general, and by the 90s I'm betting that no sound meant (at least to the kiddies) that something was wrong with the game, which was probably often so in such case.

I'm keeping a list of the games mentioned in this thread... my plan is to create a list in Maximus Arcade so I can easily pick one. Actually... I think that I can configure MA to use this list as a list to go through as a screensaver. (similar, I suppose, to uprightbass360's suggestion of pointing MA to the avi's folder).... but I only want the best ones for my attract mode. ;D

Don't know about best attract mode visuals (all used to entice me as a kid - flashy flashy!), but without a doubt, Killer Instinct had the best attract music and sounds hands down.
...and I mean proper Killer Instinct, not that abomination they called a sequel.
Sorry people, I hated it.

I agree... KI1 was much better.
