One of my all time favorite shows. :dunno
-
This really sucks.
I like KOTH better than the Simpsons, and probably better than Family Guy too.
-
There's a small possibility it could move to ABC

yep

First off, Fox has enough episodes to last another season. Secondly, ABC is already in talks with FOX to take over KOTH and pair it with the new Mike Judge show they are soon starting.
-
I hope CTF doesn't follow suit.
-
Damn it Bobby!
-
That cancellation ain't right.

What I want to know is who are the morons keeping American Dad on the air?
-
You might think I am being negative, but I think King Of the Hill, Family Guy (that Star Wars rip was the pits) and American Dad are crap.
I'm probably being influenced by too much British Humor. ;D
-
So instead of being negative .... recommend something worth checking out then.

Ok.... Fawlty Towers

Eh .... probably about the same humor as Waiting For God or The Vicar of Dibley and such.
How about a British cartoon series?
-

Not even close. Fawlty Towers is the funniest show EVER.

Guess I'll have to check that one out then. ;)

I've never seen an episode but from what I've read in books and articles, Fawlty Towers is probably one of the funniest sitcoms worldwide (it placed first in a list of 100 of all-time British programs). I need to check it out one day.
There were three remakes for the American audience, two made it to air, none succeeded.
Just 12 episodes were made.
-
Fawlty Towers is ooooold. I thought he was busy with Monty Python at that time. British humor is 'smart' - like, one dresses smartly - and Americans generally don't identify with that.
-
The IT Crowd is hilarious, if you happen to be an IT geek like myself.

I think Balls of Steel is/was funny.
-
The Big Bang Theory is hilarious. Probably because it resembles my life when I was in University. I like British humor but the Brits haven't made a decent comedy in a loooong time.

the office
phoenix nights
extras
time trumpet
the day today
brass eye
knowing me knowing you
nathan barley
15 storeys
these are the outstanding ones of recent years off the top of my head, all up there with fawlty towers in my opinion and definitely a million times better than the big bang theory
-
Faulty Towers was only good because of John Clease. It reminded me of the same basic humor as in Newhart. It is also OLD, and oddly enough, has become very dated.
I agree with singapura, there arent many good decent british comedies these days. Ever since the deregulation in the comedies exchange in britain, there seems to be a massive foreclosure on british humor. Either that, or they ran out of ideas and are trying to hard to be like MP.

You should add to your list Spaced, Black Books, The Mighty Boosh, and, for a touch of the eighties, The Young Ones.

The humor is as solid today as it was back then. John Cleese is the foundation upon which Fawlty Towers was built, so of course it's funny because of him, but don't forget Andrew Sachs as Manuel.

How can we forget with that debacle over him and his granddaughter... :o
Remember that some of the famous American shows like All The Family and Sanford and Son were based on UK comedies. One of my favorite ones were the Comic Strip Presents. Try and find it on video. Its very funny.

So it seems that US comedy (which I have a hard time laughing at [being American]) doesn't hold a light to UK comedy. That laughter track doesn't work anymore. Friends is a prime example. The US version of the office is kinda funny only because the writers were from the UK hit show.
-
the american office was written by an american team,Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant were barely involved and definitely did no writing for it
-
I can't believe that no one's mentioned Peep Show. It's easily the funniest British comedy series of recent years, and incredibly twisted (the type of humour I like).

I guess it depends on the level of profanity the girl has to spell.

There are cultural elements that make comedy appealing in different ways. I somewhat enjoy parts of the british aesthetic, but a lot of the humor is a little 'classical' in texture for me. As well, there's some american humor that is a bit droll. Most of the 90s and probably anything after in america seems either just lame or forumulaic and dusty. Friends for example. Oh, and add manic to that. Elck.
For some old-but not too old-school humor, I look to M.A.S.H.
