Title: Making motherboard boot as soon power is present?
Post by: AE35 on November 04, 2008, 05:30:05 am
Hey all!

Is there a way to make a motherboard boot when power is connected?
(even when the option is not in the BIOS)

I've tried the green wire with ground on the ATX, the PC boots but no image :)

Thanks!

Nicholas

My PC has the option in the BIOS, are you running the latest for your MB? I would make sure you have the latest and the greatest first. If there is no BIOS for your MB that will do this, I am sure there is a way to install some sorta power switch to do this.

I thought people just got a longer set of wires that instead went to a button somewhere on the cab or panel.

Did anything happen at all?

What size cap did you use?

Hi!

Nothing at all happened...I used a 4.7uF 50V cap. While it was on I still had
to short the cap's legs with a screwdriver..and then it booted:)

couple of items...

1. if this works, wouldn't your PC auto-power on after a power outtage? Exposing it to spikes during a storm?

2. Wouldn't just extending the power button be a better idea? Could use it for startup as well as graceful shutdown with an ATC case/mobo. With this mod, you have to press a button or flip a switch either way right?

Are you sure you got the cap on the right way?

If you did, you may have to use an even smaller cap, say 1uf.

Yes, it's on the right way.

I'll try a 1uF and get back

Thanks for your help!
