Title: Ready to assemble (!!NOT PREASSEMBLED!!) upright cabinet kits?
Post by: bani on November 04, 2008, 12:53:44 am
Is the Mameroom Ultimate Arcade II (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79247.0) the only one?

All the other cabinets (mikesarcade, arcadeshop, dreamauthentics, ) i've seen for sale are preassembled. Sadly, this is not an option for my apartment as there is no way to get one up the stairs, let alone in the door.

Not interested in bartop/cocktail cabinets.

Arcade27duo kit looks nice, if a bit spendy.

anyone have one of these and can comment on the build quality?

I've found so far:

Mameroom Ultimate Arcade II (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79247.0)

arcadeshopper Arcade27duo kit kit (http://www.arcadeshopper.com/joomla/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=38&category_id=31&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=55)

dreamauthentics you-build-it (http://store.dreamauthentics.com/dreamstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=6&idproduct=69) (looks like a rebranded mameroom UAII)

quasimoto arcade station ex (http://www.quasimoto.com/arcade-station-ex) not really an arcade cabinet, more like a shelf for your xbox360.

still trying to find a review of the arcadeshopper cabinet...

For real large-size mame cab type though, there's only Mameroom. It wouldn't surprise me if he's taken over SlikStik's clientele on retail cab kits.

Yeah, a link would be interesting.

I've got the UAKII kit. I like it.. but it's almost too big.  One of my other complaints is that the control panel sticks out pretty far so it's kinda hard to reach the coin door.

shipping to north america would be prohibitive.

curious nobody in north america makes them, kit or no.

I emailed them a while back and they said they could not ship them to North America because it would be too expensive for them.

It would be cool if somebody sold kits for half cabs.  The people in the fighting game community would be very happy about that.

A half cab, or Cigarbob as they are known after the man who made them famous, is a sit-down cab that ends in a flat tabletop where the controls are placed.  A monitor or tv is then placed on top of the surface.

the second one isn't the prettiest, but I love the design.

For people who only care about replicating the functionality of a candy, these are great.  I think a kit of the second design would be cake for somebody to put together and sell.
