Title: Help with Opti-Wiz
Post by: tevans333 on November 03, 2008, 02:23:57 pm
Hi all, I have a driving cab with a 360 degree steering wheel. The wheel has the encoder disk on it but  none of the electronics. I believe that the opti-wiz is a good choice as an interface, especially since it is only $15:) But I have a few questions first to make sure I have it all figured out properly.

1) I need 2 opto sensors and a led for use with the encoder wheel?
2) The +5V and gnd on the opti-wiz can be used to power the above?
3) Just wire the 2 opto sensor outputs to the X-axis on the opti-wiz?

Thanks for any and all help,
Tim

Actually, all you need to make a 360* Wheel, as long as it has an encoder wheel mounted, is this:

Then use the Opti-Wiz as the controller.  +5v and Gnd all run to the same board.. simple.  You are basically wiring up a spinner that happens to have a wheel attached. :)
