I bought a new soundcard today and it works great with the cd player... but thats it... nothing else will recognize it... Any thoughts as to why?
-
what card? what os?
-
windows 98 se its a philips something or other...
dynamic edge 4.1 i think it is, but im not exactly sure on that?
i installed it by disabling my onboard sound, deleting the drivers for it
plugging the soundcard in the pci slot
plugged an audio cable into the cd drive
did i do something wrong?

I think you missed the step where you downloaded the drivers and installed them... and the step where you plug in your speakers =P (just kidding on the last one)
What does you control panel tell you in device manager?

sorry, i forgot to mention that, i installed the drivers on the cd... and yes the speakers are plugged in lol

could it be something in wiring?

Did you check your bios? ;)
I had a board with sound and I disabled it in windows. The bios had a switch enabling the onboard chip. I just forgot to check the integrated features. :P ;D

it's not onboard...

In your original post you *claimed* to have disabled some onboard sound... by deleting it from windows...
I'd suggest as an earlier poster did of making sure to disable it (the onboard soundcard) in BIOS... I'd go one step forward and make sure you DISABLED it in device manager (not just DELETED otherwise it'll just keep coming back and be taking ownership of the media signals in your box)
*Shrug*
good luck!

it is off in bios
i'll check device manager...
but did i install the soundcard right?

AAAAAAAAAAARG i got my soundcard fully functioning, but now when i startup it won;t stop with the hardware wizard...(because of the onboard sound i assume) anyway to take that off or disable it from detecting it?

Start -> settings ->control panel->SYSTEM->device manager tab
open the "Tree" for sound, video , and gaming controllers...
highlight your onboard sound device(s do one at a time if it's multiple thingies ) CLICK on properties.
CHeck mark " disable in this (or all) profiles" repeat for other parts of onboard sound controller if necessary (i.e. joystick ports/mpu401 midi stuff etc...)
reboot... feel the love.

ah, video and gaming controllers, i just did the sound in device manager, thats odd that a soundcard would be in those categories heh... well thanks:) i'm going to try that
