Title: Diagnosis...
Post by: venkman on October 29, 2008, 05:34:14 am
nothing to do with dick van dyke, but some troubleshooting help would be great!

a new machine arrived yesterday and it doesn't work.

here are the things i know:

does this mean that it's most probably the power supply and i should firstly try replacing the power supply? anything else i can check?

.. how come the monitor works if the power supply isn't working - does it take power direct from the mains you think?

Use your multimeter and start checking voltages and fuses.

thanks, ok i'll check the voltage coming out of the power supply first off. i don't know where else i could check. the other end of the wires maybe..

Fuses, if there are any.  And check the AC going in to the power supply.

just to make sure the power from the wall is working at 240. ok..
i have a spare power supply in the other non-working cab i have. i'll test that one too.

if the power going in to the power supply that doesn't seem to be working (the led is off) is ok, but no power is coming out - the PSU will most likely be the culprit?

so.. the multi meter is really just helping me be more definite.
i'm not sure if the cab has any fuses i can test.

if the voltages going in and coming out on the one i have at home are ok then i can swap it in.  this one has a working red led on it but the rest of the machine is broken.
