Hi Guys,
I got on of those 6in1 switch board from jammaboards, and have hooked up the -5v to each connector that requires it from my power supply in the cab. How do i cut the -5v to the slot that is not in use when i switch over games?

C'mon, someone MUST have come across this issue before surely?
Could i potentially damage my game boards if i apply -5v to them whilst they are not being used?

Does the switch cut off the ground on the non-selected boards ?

yeah. Well, i assume so, seing as though i havent wired any extra ground connections to the switch board.
The switch board does not support the -5v line, so it has to be wired from the psu to each slot that needs it (both ki and ki2 require -5v)

If there is no return path to ground, there won't be a circuit, right ?

Y'know, Sometimes the simple things escape me. ::)
I'll have to check to make sure it cuts the ground however. If it doesnt, could i damage something?

What I did on my switcher is installed relays to cut power to the slots when not in use. Here is what I did
1. Run a wire from 12v pin on desired slot to 1 coil pin on relay.
2. Run a wire from edge connector ground pin A,B1,2,e,f,27 or 28 to the other coil pin on relay. ( changed this part,forgot coil pin)
Now the relay is energized when the slot is powered.
3. Run a wire from the edge connector -5v pin to com pin on relay.
4. Run a wire from N/O pin on relay to -5v pin on the slot.
Repeat for each slot that needs -5v.

If you do it this way those slots with the relays will only get -5v when it is in use.
Any questions feel free to pm me. It isn't hard to do,it was my first time using relays and had no problems. One more thing you might want to mount the relays on a bread board then mount on cab.

I can't take pictures of the switcher,it is too much work to remove from cab.
It is buried behind pcb's and under a shelf. I used extension harnesses to the pcb's.
I will try and make a drawing showing what I did and post it tomorrow.
That should clear things up for you.
It is not very hard to do,if I could do it anyone can.
All connections were on the switcher except the ones on the relays.

A pic would be nice however, as i have never installed relays of this kind before. I'll have to obviously remove my pcb's to do this mod, so i'll take some pics when i do so.

I can't take pictures of my switcher,but I drew a simple wiring diagram for you.
It shows 1 hookup,so just repeat for others,each with it's own relay.
When you solder to edge connector keep connection close to board so harness will go on.
Also for edge connector connections solder 1 wire to the connector and splice other wires to it.
I couldn't remember which pins were the N/O & N/C,but it is on the relay package,if you get the ones I linked in a previous post.
You will only use one set of N/O,N/C & COMM pins,but both COIL pins.
Mount relays on bread board,they just push on and you solder wire on opposite side.
I will post a picture of relays mounted so you can see what it looks like,it shows 1 relay because it belongs to Neverenough from KLOV who helped me.
Sorry I made a mistake on drawing, so I revised it. The +12v wire should go from the +12v pin on the desired slot(not the +12v pin on edge connector) to a coil pin on relay. I posted a revised drawing.

Thanks for taking the time to draw that up Jim. Its is more appreciated than i could ever tell you. Once i get my hands on those relays, ill get some pics up of my completed switch board.
Maybe worth submitting that pic to jammaboards so they can include the relays in the 6in1 kit for those who wish to use games that require -5v.

With a little direction from jimkirk (not to mention his very easy to follow diagram above) i have completed my switch board.
In the pic there are three relays on the breadboard (mounted via a long stickypad) with only one hooked up for now. I have not yet had a chance to try the switchboard in my cab, but will do so some time tonight.

Well, i can totally verify that this mod works 100%!!!!

In the pic ive just plugged in one ki2 board into slot 3 (slot 3, 4 and 5 have the -5v), but ive tried both ki1 and ki2 together and it works beautifully.
