I have Mala all set up and running currently (1.0.5.8 ). But if I click on the Config button next to the MAME executable (Mame Config -> Basics) and change something, it is apparently not saved when I click OK. I have tried changing the Joystick Deadzone under the Controller Tab, and I have tried adding an artwork folder. If I immediately go back and check the settings again, they are set back to the original values.
I did move the MAME source folder after I configured MaLa, but I went through all the places I could find that ask for a path to MAME and updated it with the new location. Games launch just fine. The only other thing I can think of is that I set the MAME executable to a .cmd file instead of the mame.exe file that it is looking for. I did this by manually entering the filename and path in the Mame executable text box.
Does anyone have any ideas why it may not be saving the MAME Config settings?

I should write a note in that window.
That config settings does not account for all the changes to mame config for every mame version
But it is a good starting point as it get's most of the work done quickly.
If something has not changed when using it then it it is probably becuase that option does not exists with the version of mame you are using (with that specific name anyway)
I suggest editing mame.ini manually for the items you have an issue with. That is all that config window does anyway ;)

OK, good to know. I will take a look at the mame.ini file.
Also, just to verify, the Joystick Deadzone setting shown here:
is only for menu navigation, correct? It won't have anything to do with joystick deadzone settings in MAME?

Correct
