i liked it (",)
the story is a little predictable, a little light, like a computer game i guess. but in both cases that doesnt mean its not enjoyable.
i dont know anything about the game, so that may be a good thing. or maybe not. i like marky mark. he isnt the best actor in the world, so he tries his hardest. and that earnestness comes out in the characters he plays (although over the top in that m knight shanana banana flick).
i give it 3.5 outta 5.
-
i played the first game, didn't get much into the second, I don't remember winged demons n stuff. preview looked good, I plan to see it
-
I'll probably catch it on cable. I don't know what the similarities are between the story in the movie and the game but I remember the dialogue and plot being pretty corny in both games (intentionally so, I suppose).
-
It looks awfully bad. Not a chance in hell I'll see it in the theater. Slight chance I'll eventually catch the DVD or something since I liked the game a lot and I like Marky Mark.

I like Marky Mark.
...but what about the Funky Bunch?
-
I was really hoping this one was good, but 17% on rottentomatoes make me think I'll wait for the dvd.

I played the first game until that stupid dream level. After I beat that level, I had such a bad taste in my mouth for it I never touched the series again. :-\
The Dream Level brought the game down for me as well. I pressed through to the end (unusual for me) and it does improve.
The second game discarded those stupid levels where you have to navigate some "mystical tightrope" (still a dream sequence though, but same game play more or less). And the funhouse level is pretty damn cool (you don't shoot anything, just interact). Didn't like the change of Max Payne's face so much (I liked the goofy constipated smirk of Sam Lake).

The movie just looks so bad and nothing at all like the game. Uwe Boll should die so he can roll in his grave.
-
I haven't played the game but the trailers make it look like Keanu Reeves's Constantine.
-
wait, Uwe Boll made this movie? maybe I wont go see it
-
The Hitman was good, so I hope the director took notes on Max.
I think the Bioshock movie will creep anyone out, when it gets made. If they stick to the plot and IF QT does it...
Arcade to Movies. I dunno. After Dead or Alive, I'm a bit more cautious. ;D

No, Uwe Boll did not make this movie. It was directed by John Moore who's previous movies include The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix, and Behind Enemy Lines.

I was saying the movie looks so bad it would make even Uwe Boll roll over in his grave...if he was dead.
-
Oh come now...Boll is the worst of the worst. Dude could couldn't direct his way out of a porn gang-bang flick!

Agreed. Using rottentomatos as an index, Max Payne has a rating equal to Uwe Boll's last 4 movies combined and is higher then any movie he has ever done.

i would say its on par with 'the hitman'. again, i hadnt played the game so maybe that affects my view...

I saw it last Friday and liked it quite a bit. The story is interesting. Not very original but that's what you get when you follow a book, game or other movie. Only thing I couldn't figure out was the weather. It snows most of the time but when they drive from a snow covered road in town to the harbor, most of the snow is suddenly gone. The river is frozen yet a short time later it rains heavily. How come the roads don't freeze? :dunno

I don't know . . . No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Cider House Rules, Princess Bride, The Human Stain, Dangerous Liaisons . . . I don't think a movie has to be derivative and filled with ridiculous cliches just cos it's based on a previous work.

Don't forget Shawshank Redemption (novella), Fight Club (novel), Godfather I and II (novel), Goodfellas (non-fiction novel), The Departed (remake), Memento (short story), American Psycho (novel), Dr Strangelove (novel), The Shining (novel), The Green Mile (serial novel), Full Metal Jacket (novel), Yojimbo (novel), A Fistful of Dollars (novel and remake of Yojimbo), Sling Blade (short film), A Clockwork Orange (novel), Band of Brothers (non-fiction novel), etc, etc, etc....
So many that could be listed.

American Psycho (novel)
not a good example. although i didnt see the movie, i read one chapter of the book. that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- really weirded me out. there's no way a hollywood movie could come close to that. and i believe critics said so at the time it came out...

I saw the movie yesterday and I thought it was decent. I thought Mila Kunnis as Mona Sax was a bad casting choice. To me she is not believable as a tough character. The winged creatures in the movie are the hallucinations people see who are on the drug Valkyr. I thought the film looked good. Overall worth a matinee viewing. I've played through both games and i hated the stupid red rails you had to jump around on. As far as the comparisons to the :censored: that Uwe Boll produces I think Max Payne is way better. I dare anyone to sit through In the Name of the King: A dungeon siege tale.

if you read what he does with a live rat, a glass tube, some acid and a car battery you too would agree there's no way hollywood could touch it ;)
the whole premise of the book was the extremes. pager after page you are reading about how he picked out an armani suit to wear to work. then you are reading about how he seduces and murders women. the contrasts are really extreme. supposed to be an allegory of 80's excess or summink. anyway, if you tone down the voilence for the movie, then you've lost one of the extremes...
so yes, one chapter is all it takes for me to say the movie couldn't be anything like the book...

I saw this the other day. What a piece of crap. I felt like I was watching the whole thing in bullet time. Soooo sloooow. Nothing like the game. Not even in a good way. No pill popping, no blood.
Hitman was awesome for a movie about a game. I love the shots of him walking through the halls of the hotel, he walks just like the character in the games. The angle was even the same.
-
i had a lot of fun playing the first game as a multiplayer .. probably rent the film.
james bond movie is out today here - i'll be seeing that next. ;)

IIRC the game was only single player. I think the same for Max Payne 2.
-
on n64?

on n64?
You're thinking of a different game then. Max Payne wasn't released (officially) for the N64. It did come out for PS2 and Xbox.
EDIT: Perhaps Goldeneye? Perfect Dark?
EDIT EDIT: It was released for the GBA also, but I don't think it was multiplayer either.

What? Where do you live? We don't get it until the 14th of November. Sucks too, cos my mother in law is visiting which gives us a free babysitter, but there's almost nothing worth seeing in the theaters right now.
