Hello!
I'd appreciate the boards help/feedback/tips/pointers etc with some questions/kinks I'm trying to work out of using a vertically mounted WG19K4675 arcade monitor in DOS using well... dos mame (and experimenting with advancemame).
But first wanted to thank Andy for filling the needs of the BYOAC'er community so well. I was in awe at how easily, and how beautifully games showed up using the ArcadeVGA card and the video amp... it was really stunning/amazing (especially if you consider how much effort I had put into a VGA cable hack for a much more mediocre output).
I'm using MAME's -norotate option so that vertical games like pacman, donkey kong etc fill up the display with the correct orientation.
What I was wondering is what resolution/settings should I run horizontal games on the vertical monitor (assuming I use the -ror or -rol to rotate the display correctly) I understand it'll be letterboxed -- but for the occasional game it'll suffice.
Is there a way to make it so that all horizontal games -ror yet all vertical games stay -norotate? Like some sort of .ini file? (or is that one of the custom builds that someone (sirp?) hacked in a vert.ini and horiz.ini *shrug*?)
thanks in advance for any assistance/guidance you can provide.

PS this is a dupe/crosspost of what i
posted on the new fancy ultimarc board (http://www.mameworld.net/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/wwwthreads.pl?action=list&Board=mameworldultimarc) I'd appreciate your thoughts, posted either here or there... gracias!
Just to add on: can anyone explain the usage and result of using autorol/autoror ?

When you use -norotate some games rotate right and some rotate left, very annoying. So using either Autorol/autoror makes sure they all rotate in the same direction.

so would you use both at the sametime?
-norotate -autorol or no... (now please remember I'm using a vertical monitor so I'd only want horizontals to rotate... or am I still missing the point)?
Thanks for your reply, btw... I appreciate the clarification.

no, just use autoror or rol.

Thanks guys... is this command present in the DOS version or windows only?

yes, just use -rol 1, all the other rotaion options should be set to 0. Now all games will diplay vertical even the horizontal ones, now you just have to figure the new resolutions for the horizontal games :)
