Title: HELP!
Post by: Phoenix on October 16, 2008, 04:24:24 pm
I need a bit of help if anybody can. I have an Invaders The Abduction macnine in an Atari  showcase 33 cab that is dying.  I replaced the power supply and I get the same thing.  All the lights come on (light box on top and coin returns) the system fan powers on and the led's on the board light, but no picture or sound  When I flip the switch off, I can see the screen flicker, when I turn it on I can here the high pitched 'whine and crackle' of the screen getting power...what else can I check, it has to be something pretty simple I'm just not seeing, theres not much else power realted in there (before the board that is)  Theres only one onboard fuse and its good.  Any serious help would be appreciated.

Only thing I can think is to check all your connections and make sure they are seated.  Even unplug then replug to help make a better connection.  The next thing I would do is send the board to get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing(not saying you don't,  because I know I don't).

It's a Jamma cab and I've seated and reseated the main harness and gently cleaned the fingers on the board, tried (several) different power cords, all soldered connections are tight.  Who is qualified to check these boards for 'good'ness?

Does it coin up ? Play blind ?

If it doesn't, the first step would be to grab a copy of the manual and see if it has a test mode (and then activate said test mode adn see what it says).

I would also check the voltages at the board.

Don't fat-finger the connectors and chips too much -- just once to see if that is the problem.

Sounds to me like the board isn't booting up.

do you have ANY other JAMMA boards to test with?

Right, its like the board is not booting. There are 4 led's on the board, one for the 5 volts (red, on good) and two other green ones. I do have the manual for the cab and the game and have refered to them several times.  There i sa test mode when the machine boots that is, been there and worked with it. I dont have any other Jamma boards to test with at the moment, Thanks so far!
