Title: Where can I purchase / connect a molex from CRT monitor to 120v *PICS* attached
Post by: mrclean on October 12, 2008, 01:07:38 am
I just got a happ brand new 19'' crt monitor and it's power source has a molex quick disconnect type of connection which is currently connected to a standard 3-prong plug. I'm looking to buy a molex to attach to that one, and then I want it to hook up into my power supply which is a little furthur, instead of having to plug it into my wall every time i want to use my monitor i'd like to just flip my switch and have the pcb/game and the monitor come on.

Here are pics to help you better understand what i'm talking about, I Circled in the picture what i think to be correct of what needs to go where, but i need an extension, a Female to male with the wires any one sell that ?

my happ one won't plug into where *i think* it needs to go. I was just going to strip and twist / electrical tape together but that won't seem to fit any ways.. So i'm going to keep it connected where it is on the molex / and then cut it where the 3-prong is then get a molex from that to where the 120v socket is.. just don't know what size i need

Why not connect the new monitor to the connector in the harness the old monitor was connected to?

I think it's a different connector.

You need this for the connector in the bottom of the cabinet:

AMP "Commercial Mate-N-Lock" pin housing # 14803050 (or Mouser # 571-14803050) You'll only need one.

AMP pin contact for above # 606201 (or Mouser # 571-606201) You'll need two, but buy a few extras in case you screw up crimping them.

The 3 pin connector on your new monitor is a Molex in-line style, but I don't have any part numbers.

So King Ken  :burgerking: do i leave my molex to molex connected from happ, cut my 3-prong cord towards the end which will give me the length i need.. and then just strip and crimp into that 3-pin new molex ? where can i buy it from ?

Cut off the standard AC plug on the new monitor's power cord. Then you strip the black and the white wires of that cord and crimp on the new AMP brand pins. Then insert the pins into the new connector housing (once they are pushed into the connector you can't get them back out without an AMP pin extractor). The pins go in each outer hole of the connector. The center hole is not used nor is it connected to anything inside that mating connector on the metal box assembly.

If you don't feel comfortable with crimping these terminals or don't have the correct tools, you could send your monitor's power cord to me and I could install the correct connector & pins on it. A friend has one of these power brick assemblies I could use to test the cord with. Plus my local electronics parts jobber stocks these connectors & pins (and I have the crimper & extractor too).

just curious why is it that I have 3 wires going out from the monitors power cord , why don't i need the third one ? I might have you do it Ken, or I might try it my self , i'll let you know and apreciate it. Not too many things left for me to do on this cab besides wait to see if Tim, over at jammaboards took care of my capcom classic to jamma adaptor... he needed to add jumper wires so that it can work with the third fire button in Gun.Smoke..should that work i'm in business.

The green ground wire is not connected inside that connector on the bottom of the game. The hole is empty because the factory never wired it. The new monitor power cord has 3 wires: black (AC hot), white (AC neutral), and green (frame ground). The end of the cord could have a ring terminal crimped to the green ground wire. Then attach the green wire to a mounting screw on that metal box next to where the monitor will get plugged into.
