Title: Asteroids monitor Question<fixed> next Q.
Post by: Blue440Duster on October 09, 2008, 08:47:22 pm
Well I'm thinking about going to look at a asteroids that the owner says "Video doesn't travel to last inch of screen. No scrunching, just shrunk."

Could use some collective wisdom on what causes this, I really don't want to buy it if it's going to require major work as I have plenty of that allready(the ball & chain makes sure of that)

He also says it needs a cap kit, which after a little research on this forum doesn't seem like to big of a job.

Thanks

So it should be just an adjustment? no replacing of parts?

About the cap kit.... I see from research how to do it but I'm not clear as to the reason why to replace them :dunno, as a nubie I guess I need to be enlightened

Thanks for any help.

Electrolytic capacitors (and only those, but usually when we say "caps" we mean those) contain a gel that dries up because of heat and age. The results is that the electrolytic cap starts to loose it's possiblity to "store electricity" (see it as a "temporary" battery).

The heat factor is a major issue on monitors because CRT monitors simply generate a lot of heat. The issue is less on Power Supplies etc. but it's still advisable to replace those too after 25+ years.

Bob Roberts sells kits.
