Title: Need help hiding XP
Post by: tophatne1 on October 09, 2008, 04:32:42 pm
I used some instructions over on the Maximus Arcade forum and most everything worked except changing the Windows boot screen. (The one with the progress bar.)

Can someone give me some simple instruction that will let me replace that screen?

I'm using XP Home Edition. SP2

Also I have a black screen with the blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner during start up now. lasts for about 90 seconds before going to the Windows progress bar screen.
Any ideas as to why this is there now? I'd like to get rid of that too.

Thanks everyone!

Bear in mind too that some motherboards/bioses do not like you to change the XP boot logo and may hang, freeze out, reset or do something else undesirable to your system no matter which method you use.

OK.

Any ideas as to why I get the black screen with the blinking cursor for a while before it goes to the windows boot screen?

No idea as you haven't showed us which method/advice you have used from the Maximus Arcade forum. If you've used any of the methods on the BYOAC wiki then that should not have happened.

I used the method posted by user "cog" in this post.
http://www.maximusarcade.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=506 (http://www.maximusarcade.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=506)

A lot of it is similar to the wiki.

One thing that I could not do was use the path to hide the boot screen. These instructions didn't work out for me. They are "My Computer -> Properties -> Advance -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings" on both the Wiki and the post I followed.

Basically when I try to follow that path I right click on "My Computer" and I can't follow anything from there. The options I get on my game computer with  XP Home Ed differ from my home computers version of XP Home Ed. How can that be?

Try this and then follow instructions from "Advanced" on......

Keyboard Shortcut to System Properties : Windows key + Pause/Break
