OK,
I just got a Smart Strip, and it works perfectly right out of the box. My next step was to enable the "power-the-pc-by-pressing-any-keyboard-button" option from within the BIOS. I have 2 settings under PS/2 Keyboard power on; "disabled" or "any key".
Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize ANY button presses (I'm assuming because it's a USB keyboard converter IPAC thingy, and .. well USB isn't turned on yet, because the PC is off).
SO ...
I wanted to go for the scary task of running wires up to a dedicated power button, located on my CP. My questions are;
• What type of wires should I use?
• Any specific button recommendations?
• Can I get away with splicing the wires instead of soldering?
I'll be going to Radio Shack to get the parts, and any advice/tips would be most appreciated. 8)

I did this and surprisingly it is relatively easy (now that I know how) to do it this way.
To answer:
20 gauge wire is good, that's what I am using in my CP.
The button doesn't matter, as the wires will be connected to a microswitch, if it is a normal pushbutton. Just make sure the button is out of the way, you don't want to hit it during a frenzied game of Marvel vs Capcom!
You can splice! But why not splice and solder!? Just to be safe!

Thanks for the reply. If I soldered wires directly to the leads on the PC's power button, then to another button, would it work? I'm afraid of messing something up on the MOBO :o

Do you mean the power button on your PC's case? If so yes, it will work, just make sure they are the right way round. I don't think anything will go wrong if they are not as you can simply swap them round on your microswitch.
