Title: Coin Return Cup?
Post by: fatfingers on October 06, 2008, 02:36:23 pm

Hi all,

I am in the process of building my own token machine.  I am looking for the piece in the token machine that catches all of the tokens after you insert your dollar bill, but I don't know what it is called or where to get one.  From my searches I'm guessing they're called coin return cups, but perhaps I'm too picky 'cuz I dont like the ones I see.  I have it in my mind that I want a rather large, semi-circle cup, but I can't find those.

Anyone with any help?

Thanks!

I know what you're talking about. I haven't seen that similar type of machine in years. The last place was at a local car wash before it was vandelized and a newer machine put in place. The old one was similar to this one. (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ureftHKCtPY/SBPRrTFByfI/AAAAAAAAAUc/y9f5R3IGvEo/IMG_2169.JPG)

Now they sell what Happs sells. That weird square looking thing. My guess would be to try eBay and see if anyone offers one up. Even non working, it should have that coin cup that you can remove and use for your own.

Go to Target and get a 4-6" stainless steel mixing bowl. Modify as you see fit.

I can't get to the link of that picture.

And the bowl seems so....cheap, and dirty, but is a good idea.

Others?

Still wondering if I have the correct name for this part?

Anyone?

Thanks!

That's weird. I must've grabbed the Google cache instead of the direct link. Oh well. Here's two others

Similar to what I've seen in old arcades: http://everseradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/Change%20Machine.JPG
What I was thinking of based on your description and similar to what I originally linked to (apparently that style is still manufactured): http://dfwchanger.com/hamiltonMenu.htm

Maybe you can order parts from them?

"Coin Basket", "Coin Bin", "Coin Box". I wonder what they call them in other languages.  ;D "Monedero?"

I bought a 6" tall plastic container from my local supermarket for $2 buckazoids. Then I got a little creative and wrapped it around a piece of poster paper. I was concerned it wouldn't sound like a real coin box, but it turns out I was wrong.

Try token or coin hopper.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.  I do believe it is called a coin cup.

I'm definitely not after the coin box that catches the coins that are inserted into a game, but rather the little tray that the tokens fall into after inserting a bill into a change machine.
