Title: Medium Res Monitor
Post by: FrizzleFried on October 03, 2008, 02:45:20 pm
Is there any way to hack a 21" PC monitor for use with a Paperboy that uses a medium resolution monitor?

PC monitors use positive sync signals whereas the monitor in Paperboy uses negative sync.

You could give it a try though as PC monitors seem to have a wide latitude to sync signals.

Most multisync PC monitors in my experience will happily accept either negative or positive sync and either separate or composite.  Hook composite sync up to the horizontal sync input, and analog video (0.7Vpp into 75ohms only, may need a resistive divider if your game board outputs larger signals as most do) to the video inputs.

Be aware that most modern multisync PC monitors only go down to VGA/480p (30-31kHz) timings and will not sync up at medium res (EGA) timings.  You can give it a shot as most PC monitors are smart enough to disable things and not sustain damage when fed signals with out of range timings, but it probably won't work.
