Hello all,
I'm searching around for a comp for my next arcade vertical cab. This $99 deal seems good, but will it run MAME smoothly?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4196646&sku=S458-1298%20B&srkey=S458-1298%20B

Definitely. You might only hit a snag when playing 3d games in MAME.
I would say that it will run 99% of vertical games 100% speed no problem.

It's got on board video Chipset -GeForce 6100, wouldn't performance increase with a Video card ? (It's got a PCI-E X16 slot )

THATS AN awesome DEAL! GO FOR IT!!!
i know my computers and that for 99 bucks is pretty sweet

MAME doesn't take much advantage of newer video cards, the performance in MAME would be negligible but any other games would have improved performance. Thats a darn good deal for it just lacking a HD

Watch those rebates from Tiger Direct. I realize it's only $15 but they aren't always great about that stuff.

AgGree with Hoopz. Don't expect the rebate....and be prepared for issues. TigerDirect is...well...I wouldn't order from them. Check their reseller ratings to make sure your comfortable with dealing with the place before ordering.

Tiger Direct can be pretty shady sometimes...
I prefer to spend a little extra and get my computing stuff from Newegg.

Ditto. I build all my stuff from newegg components. Great company.

Thats not a terrible deal but i built an AMD X2 system for under 180. But i did have a spare harddrive and dvd drive laying around.

i know i'm new to the board and to cab building, but i'm not new to computers. i would watch out for ECS hardware ! ! ! simply read the customer reviews. i usually pay them little attention usless people are having problems with parts simply NOT WORKING... a real problem for ECS. i've always gone with MSI or ASUS. you'll spend more cash, but save yourself lots or heartache and wasted time. or roll the dice and possible get a board that works fine for $99. your decision.

I have yet to try Newegg from Canada but all I hear is good. I just got notification that Newegg.ca has opened this week. I will probably give it a try as it gets rid off all the duty and broker add ons.
On checking the Newegg.ca site it states that UPS adds CDN $1.00 for a brokerage fee and that is added to the bill on checkout. Apparently you can order and get it delivered from the US without any added fees that UPS is well known for in Canada. No money has to be paid to UPS at the door.

I have never had any problems with Tiger Direct. Or NCIX (the west coast equivalent). Isn't the rebate from Corsair, though, and not Tiger Direct?

What's interesting is that the ram supplied is PC3200, but that isn't listed in the ram supported part of the mobo specs. Hmmm.

That's what I got too! AMD X2 5600+ and GeForce7050 Mobo ($90), Fan ($13), 1GB RAM ($23), Case w/ 380 PSU ($34). Put it together last week with an old 80GB HD and DVD salvaged from an old system. It is an ECS mobo, but I guess I got lucky. It booted first try and ran flawlessly. :applaud:
In fact, using the MAME-XP tweaks I found on this board, XP boots in under 20 seconds. Haven't had a chance to try MAME yet. Still early in the project.
I guess I got lucky w/ Tiger Direct as well. Didn't know about their issues before I ordered my TV out video card (Radeon x1050 256MB) for $19.99. It arrived in good condition in the factory seal, though I haven't tried it yet. :-\

i don't know what all the fuss about tigerdirect is... i've placed over 20 orders (1 return) with them and never had a problem. hell, they sent me a laptop to the middle of afghanistan in under 12 days.

Nice find - snag it!.

Makes no diffrence, socket 754 and 939 boards all work fine with PC3200.
