Title: Speakers for bartop cab
Post by: gman314 on September 27, 2008, 04:09:44 pm
Anyone know of a good set of speakers to mount inside a bartop?  Other than quality considerations, I have to take space into account as well.  In order to mount speakers behind my marquee, I only have about 3 inches of space to work with.  Any recommendations?  Also, what would be the best way to control volume?  i was told to mount a volume control knob somewhere on the outside of the cab.   :dunno

Have you seen the Dell AS501 sound bar that mountain used in his juke? Ive got the same soundbar for mine and I can highly recommend it for a low profile speaker. It is powered 10w RMS unit which will be plenty powerful enough for a bartop, they sound pretty damn nice too.

That thing seems pretty cool.  I didn't even know such a thing existed.
I don't think it would make sense to mount that behind the marquee (since that would mean I'd have to drill holes for the sound to come out).  So I'm assuming that the best place for it would be on the underside of the panel that holds the marquee (a few inches in front of the bezel).  Does that sound right?  Thanks  :)

And I'm assuming that the volume control is on the sound bar as well, right?

I recently did a rollout of fifty new Dell PC's, and I'd have to echo FrancoB's comment that those speakers sound pretty nice and they are reasonably powerful.  Having said that, they seem to be made of the typical Dell lack-of-quality.  I had six that were dead out of the box, and another three died within a week.  That is almost a 20% failure rate.
