Title: Xbox 360 recently outsells PS3 in Japan
Post by: Red on September 27, 2008, 04:40:35 am
After the Japanese virtually ignored the Xbox 1, they are starting to like what they see with the Xbox 360.  Anyone else think Sony is doomed with the PS3 and should start concentrating on the PS4?

According to the latest figures from Media Create, the Microsoft Xbox 360 has outsold the rival Sony PlayStation 3 in Japan two weeks running, marking a sharp contrast in the country where the 360 has constantly lagged very far behind in sales.

The figures show Microsoft selling 13,777 units for the week ended September 21st with Sony only selling 8,156 units for the same period.

The Nintendo Wii continued its domination of the market though, selling more than the 360 and PS3 combined at 29,921 units for the week.

Handhelds continued to sell well with the ever popular Nintendo DS selling 61,242 units and the Sony PlayStation Portable selling 29,921 units for the week.

The recent blip was entirely due to a couple of big RPGs released exclusively on the 360.  For most Japanese gamers the PS2 is still the system of choice until the games they like start showing up on the PS3 in force.

It really has nothing to do with 360 vs PS3 considerations.  They're buying the systems for specific games.  Get those games on the PS3 and it'll start selling better in Japan.
