Hello,
There have been a few posts about various timing/ order issues when switching between custom layouts/lists and the Jukebox.
I think I have made some inroads into these issues. And after doing so was stupid enough to post an old version for the kind persons that offered to beta test. Sorry for wasting your time.
Here is a link to the latest beta.
Please report any noted improvements or bugs.

hi loadman,
I went to run 1.06be
but i get an error saying bass.dll is missing
1.05 runs fine though :dunno
any ideas?

Hey Loadman. Nice Job on the updates. Question, and this started with Mala 1.05. There is a big noticable difference between volume levels during intro video, game video and game play. I have to turn my volume level on my speakers all the way up in order
to hear all of the above. If I revert back to the version before 1.05, sound level is functioning as it should. Has anyone else notified you of this? I will keep on playing around with the settings. Thanks, Shane

You need to put the beta into your old Mala folder where bass.dll is located.

thanks SGT

:dunno Are you running in it in the same folder as that older version of MaLa? ie sharing the same mame.ini file?

Got it running
So far it looks great
transitions are perfect!
nice work Loadman :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

Same directory as the previous versions. I have over wrote the older files with the files obtained in version 1.05 as well as attempted to do the same for 1.06. The only file I did not overwrite but instead changed the name was the mala executable.
I am curious, is this an issue with anyone else or is it just me? Nothing has changed as far as the Windows volume configurations and Mala option configurations. I can hear the volume, but I have to turn the speakers all the way up to do so. Other than that, so far so good. Thanks, Shane

Weird. I have not changed any sound code.
Is the volume setting in config changing between versions

I tried again to use 1.04 executable with the newer files obtained from the 1.06 download, sound level did not change. Later this week, I will be downloading the necessary files for 1.04 again, and see if I can get volume level to change again. For now though, looks like I will have to have my volume level up all the way on my speakers. I will keep you posted.
Something with the sound volume level definitely changed though. It's kinda upsetting knowing that you did not change any sound code and all of the sudden with the latest two releases, volume level changed for me. Errr.....
Is there anything in the Mala options and or INI files that I could look at?
I will update the post later this week.... On a positive note, my gamelists "no clones" is now working the way it should.
Thanks for all your hard work loadman...
Thanks, Shane

Latest beta to stop layout Videos playing under Games etc...
I would not have debug logging on for this beta version as it could harm performance.
(Beta testing finished)
Feedback is welcome ;D

I have another 'beautification' request:
When starting a game, the "Starting..." box pops up. I am running CPWizard in resident mode, and when I hit pause that Start box pops up sometimes (takes focus? moves the game screen to the back?). Looks kinda nice for CPW, like its loading the controls, but very inconsistent. Also when exiting a game that box will hang around sometimes over my layout. Sometimes for a couple seconds.
Is there a way to put that thing on a timer or something, instead of waiting for the exit event? Or maybe a 'coin' press would clear it once in a game?
Not a big deal, its just kinda clumsy looking.

OK I hear CPwizard is cool but I don't use it on as my cab only has three buttons and I get my LCD display to advise button usage for each game.
My question is does this 'exiting a game' problem just occur when CPWizrd is used?
-
Woah, what does it look like to have the display display buttons? :o
No, its not cause of CPW specifically, I dont think. Heres what I gather from it:
- Scrolling through the list and press '1' to start the game.
- Play for a while and hit the exit button back to the list. Sometimes (20-30%?) theres still my 'Starting...' box hanging around before the main FE is active again. Sometimes just a flash, sometimes a few seconds. Like its always in the background until the game is fully exited.
I dont understand CPW fully, but I believe that when you run it in resident mode (on the taskbar) and hit pause, it takes a temporary screen capture and throws the controls stuff on top of it. The pause between hitting 'pause' and the panel showing up shows the same 'Starting...' box. Im no programmer, but this is how I see it:
- Hit pause
- Screenshot made almost instantly (its not grayed out like regular pause) and put up over everything. This is where 'Starting..." shows up.
- CPW "builds" your control panel and displays that, but it doesnt seem consistent. Ex, If you hit pause the 1st time it might take 4s to show up, after that its in memory(?) and displays almost instantly. It would be nice actually if it displayed 'Starting...' every time a CP is loaded through CPW, but Id rather have it gone.
This is running on a somewhat sluggish machine, so if no one else is experiencing this, or its attributed to a garbage PC - no big deal. Ive just noticed it happening though the last few releases and feels "sloppy".
Anybody else seen this? Back me up!
-
OK, just like taking your auto to a mechanic, the problem doesnt show up anymore. I didnt change anything, I just dont see it.
Just want to close this issue. Ill let you know if it comes back up.

Loadman, I was testing Beta version 1.06J and I noticed the following issues regarding the LED Game Files:
The LED functionality is kind of working. The LED's do stay on after you run the game but the LED's that are staying on are not the same LED's that are stored in each games LED's file they are the default LED's. I hope I made this clear feel free to ask me any clarifying questions.
Also, I noticed that when scrolling thru the menus some but not all of the games do not have any LED's lighting up anymore, however, when the game is started the system default LED's do light up. When I exit that game the lights are off again.
When I replace the Beta 1.06J version of Mala with my oiriginal version 1.0.4.5 and all of the games are properly lighting up in the menus with the LED files I created.
I hope this helps. Thanx a bunch for working on this.

.. I think I have fixed that already for the next version. ;)
Let me know if you have issues after the next release

Any reason why my antivirus says there's spyware in the MaLaFE file when I try to download it from the site?

Check the right pane on the download site.

Notice:
Some virus scanners will report a virus in the file MalaKeyhook.dll.
There is NO virus inside!
It's also safe to delete this file because it's only necessary for the exit hook (other emulators) on win98/ME systems. Use the hotkeys instead on other systems if required.
The keyhook uses code (system keyboard hook) wich is also used in bad stuff like keyboard loggers or something else ....
