Title: Who the Heck is Bob Roberts?
Post by: Shieldwolf on June 13, 2003, 11:54:26 am
So I saw that some of you guys bought from bob roberts instead of Happs. What's his story? Is his stuff used? Could you give me some info

His stuff is new or NOS... (although I'm sure he has tons of used parts too if you need something really old/rare)

He's just a heck of a guy, providing really good service to collectors/restorers/mame cabineters (we need a better verb -- byocer's?)

why not check out his site and see (granted his site is very frontpage98 looking but it's got golden items for good prices...)

http://www.therealbobroberts.com (http://www.therealbobroberts.com)

He just has a great reputation...   I believe he keeps his prices low because:

a. he doesn't try to squeeze every penny out of the community
b. he probably buys happs stuff in bulk and passes on the savings to you!  =P

*shrug*

He also has a TON of great info. Read, for example, the article at http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/buildit.html regarding wiring a cabinet from scratch, or his notes on lighting a trackball at http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/mynotes.html#tblamp .  Bob Roberts is truly a treasure to the arcade community.

I bought a lot of joysticks and trackball mounting plates from Bob.  Got them cheaper than I could from Happs and they arrived quickly.

Before ordering I sent Bob an email asking if they were used and he replied he'd have to be running some kind of junk yard to have that many used joysticks:).

I highly recommend him.

I've purchased from Bob twice.  Great prices, great variety, and great service.    Don't even consider buying anywhere else - seriously.   he ships very fast too!

I ordered an Aari big blue capasitor from him and he sent it to me before I  even mailed the check !  because he knew that I was anxious to see if it would solve my broken Asteroids machine problem. He is an extremely trusting person and probably doesn't have an enemy in the world. I can't think of a better person to buy from. The world needs more people like Bob.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you actually pay him?

I'd like to place an order but he doesn't accept credit cards or Paypal, and drawing a money order in a foreign currency is seriously expensive where I live (UK).

I paid him over some other service than paypal. He suggested it as I asked him how we're gonna do the transaction, and must say, it worked smoothly. The firm doing the transaction let me go through a bit of hassle though, had to scan my visa-card and drivers license, so they were 100% sure it was me. So I scanned both cards, blurred all card-number infos in photoshop, and mailed it to them, and presco, all was done done :) Can't remember the name of the firm though, but mail Bob and ask him what to do, he sure do know :)
