Title: First time install with Mala. SNAPS?
Post by: skyblast on September 24, 2008, 11:18:12 pm
using 0127b of mame (the one from the tutorial), the latest mala, xp and xarcade dual stick w/ trackball

(can't seem to get my trackball to scroll through the games list uggghhhhh)

So I've just installed mala and am clueless as how to do much of anything  :o

Now that I've learned how to right click I now have access to the options menu.  This looks to be the place where things get done.?

I have ton of questions however I'm guessing it's best to only accomplish a couple at a time.

Snaps??

So when playing ghost and goblins I hit F12. Then when I went in the snaps folder I found a ghosts and goblins folder with a the snap it.  Good right?

Then I tried to verify the path of the snap?

In the options menu under pictures and video I clicked  "..." next to snaps and everything looks good.   Emulators\Programs\Mame\Snaps

So then when I go back to the main list screen shouldn't the snap be next to the game in the list??

Thanks

the default layout for mala (the one with the planet) doesn't have support for snaps.
Installing a new layout is really quite easy, and there are a bunch of ready-to-roll layouts on the mala website.  I personally prefer the retrogui layout, but then, I'm an old man.

Just download one o' them and there should be installation instructions inside the layout zip file as to getting it working.  It's easy.

Hmmm, I recall now that Mame gives each game snap a separate directory within the snap folder. I don't use snaps, but I'm thinking the newer convention isn't compatible?

True, but do yourself a favour and just acquire a snap collection and save yourself a lot of grief

what I did was get a snap collection which covered most of my roms, then I used mame32 to see what snaps were missing and took my snapshots with mame32 as this taks snaps the old way. Then once I had all my snaps I went back to Mala.
