Title: Trying to design my first CP and would love some opinions.
Post by: Twinpanther on September 23, 2008, 12:01:27 pm
This will be my first cabinet and I can't tell you guys how excited I am about it.
CP is 32"x16" atm but I think I may reduce it to 30"x15".
I have 2 backgrounds I'm deciding between.  I like the first and my wife the second.  Which would you go with?
Secondly, do you see any problems with the design?  I'm planning on adding a couple more buttons for the spinner.  My list, etc... will be off the CP but is there something I'm missing?  I'd like to play as many games as possible on this machine as you can probably tell.

Opinions and suggestions welcome.

While the second picture is really  :censored: cool, I think the first one would be better suited for the application, in my opinion.

I think it would look cooler too if you bumped the picture down or the trackball up so it was centered on the "explosion".

As for anything technical, I can't help. I'm still designing my first cabinet too! ;)

Your buttons and sticks are WAY too low.

I considered that but if I drop down the image the top of the panel would end up just black unless I layered something else on top.  I'll have to play around with it.

So, move the buttons and J sticks up a bit but the trackball is ok where it's at?  What's your reasoning for moving the buttons?  Comfort/hand positions?

I don't have the flight stick yet so I don't know the clearance needed so not sure if it's positioned correctly yet.  Spinner will be even with the Flight Stick for Tron of course.  Of course the buttons for Tempest are left of the spinner so not sure what I want to do about that yet, LOL.  Considering using P1 buttons 1 and 2 for that but we'll see.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I'd really like this to come out nice.

move everything at the bottom up.  put the coin button horizontally next to the start button to save space. lose the flight stick, you arent going to use it and its going to get in the way.

spinner and trackball...... thats up to your preference, mock it up on cardboard first

Yep....comfort and general asthetic. It looks like you could move your flight stick and spinner up slightly, and move the joy/buttons up some. The trackball could either stay or move up.

Updated position of everything and changed CP size to 30"x15".

Thank you, I think moving the buttons up will make a big difference.

I will definitely be printing hole locations out before I drill anything.

Moved the image down.  Not sure it's exactly what I'm looking for but it does look good there.

I'd expand the explosion so it takes up more of the panel so theres less "dead" black area and I still think the coin buttons horizontal to the start buttons looks better, IMHO of course.  It looks better then my current art work
