Ok, so I've got the xarcade dual stick with the track and thus far I love it!! Mapping the buttons was easy but for some reason I am having no luck with the trackball?
The main thing I would like to do besides using it in a game is use the trackball to scroll through my mame list on my frontend.
On the xarcade site I am told to do the following:
MAME™ SETUP
In MAME™ choose the "Options" menu (at the top), and click "Default Game Options" from the drop-down menu.
Select the "Game Controllers" tab.
Click the box next to "Enable Mouse Support" to add a check mark (if it is not already checked).
If you have another mouse/touchpad connected to the PC, you may need to make the X-Arcade™ Trackball the default mouse. The easiest way to do this is to disable the other mouse/touchpad in Device Manager (The X-Arcade™ Trackball shows up as "Samsung" mouse), then reenable it. If you have a USB mouse, you can simply unplug it and plug it back in again. Otherwise you will need to change all of the default mouse buttons and movements to the X-Arcade™ Trackball manually.
All of your MAME™ games will work with that configuration.
Options? Where do I find the options menu? I know where you can find the standard configuration/player controls etc. by pushing TAB but "options" menu?? No clue? It says once in the mame choose the options menu at the top?? As far as I know you can't even use your mouse once in mame so how can you access a drop down menu to configure the trackball?
Oh yeah. Yes the trackball is working and does act like a mouse when on the standard OS desktop screen with the trackball usb is plugged in.
Anyway I'm sure for you guys this is an easy fix.
Thanks

What version of MAME are you using?
I have a TankStick and I use MAME32. Older versions actually have an XArcade config right in the drop down menu. You can also copy it over to other versions of MAME32 and it works.
I can use mine just like a mouse but it isn't as good as using a mouse. I probably can tweak some settings though to get it more responsive like my mouse.

I am using 0115b from mgalaxy and its frontend. Is this a good mame to use.
So you mentioned drop down menu? Where is this mythical drop down menu that I keep hearing about? When I load mame there are no drop down menus just the TAB configuration button.
Do I need to use a different version of mame?
Thanks for all of your help

Ok, I guess I'm not finding the options menu because I'm running a dos version of mame??
I guess I need mame32?

OP, be sure to read the last part!
Mame/mame32/mameUI have an in-game menu that you get to by pressing tab key (the default). This is what the xarcade instructions are talking about.
The three all can directly start a game.
Mame/mame32/mameUI all can start without starting a game. This is a "Front End" (aka FE) view. Mame's is very minimal.
Mame32/mameUI FE has a drop down menu to do things like change mame's settings. You can do the same things by hand in mame, but the menus in mame32/mameUI mouse-a-ize it. However, there is no way to directly remap inputs as in xarcade's instructions.
Mame has a ctrlr file in the ctrlr folder for the Xarcade. Mame32/mameUI doesn't come with it anymore; but you can download the same version mame and use that ctrlr file. If copied into the mame32/mameUI ctrlr folder, it will show in the drop down menu wbassett mentioned. But this has nothing to do with the TB.
However, sounds like you are using mgalaxy FE, so you aren't going to the mame32 FE, so you don't have that drop down menu. But since you're using a different FE, just set up the ctrlr file through that FE.
There is no such thing as a dos mame for a long time. Official mame is a windows application. Don't confuse window's commandline with dos.
Back to the OP first question:The main thing I would like to do besides using it in a game is use the trackball to scroll through my mame list on my frontend.
This is a FE issue, and has nothing to do with mame. Set up your FE to use the mouse/TB. If you can use the TB depends on your FE, and I don't know mgalaxy.

So I finally got to use my trackball for the first time in a golf game. Hooray!!
u-rebelscum do you have a suggestion for a free FE that will utilize the trackball?
I am now using mameUI? Any good FEs for this one?
Thanks for all your help

It's a personal opinion, and don't a have a fav yet. Have you checked the wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends)?

I don't know. &
Well, besides it's its own FE, any FE that works with mame will work with mameUI.
