Title: Bloodstorm dedicated cabs are factory conversions?!?!
Post by: Malenko on September 22, 2008, 08:13:24 am
So Im reading through an OLD, LONG, and VERY INTERESTING thread on shoryuken.

(Fun fact: We needed to get rid of those dedicated Hard Yardages that were costing us rent. I am proud to say that it was my idea to create giant vinyl BloodStorm cabinet graphics we could stick over the sides of the Hard Yardages. We converted the boards, stuck on the stickers, and off they went. Problem solved!)

guy who worked on Street Fighter : The Movie (the game) said since Strata / IT had sooo many Hard Yardage Cabs leftover (since strata ONLY sold it as a dedicated cab and not a conversion) that Strata put vinyl on the sides and converted the cabs to BloodStorm.

Anyone know how true this is?

Completely plausible. When something doesn't sell, ya gotta cut your losses as much as possible! (Nintendo red Donkey Kongs for example)

I recall seeing on the web some photos of how some games had pieces of other games, used in them, like a side with side art, cut down and made into the bottom "floor" piece of another game, at the factory.

I can definitely verify Rays comment. My Bally/Midway cab has stringers made from other cut up cabs. They have the Rampage style yellow and green stripe artwork.

Scroll down to Galaga Cabinet info and you can see both the rare factory converted Bosconian/Galaga and the Galaga with a Ms Pac front panel for a floor (just as you stated)

"Frankensteined" cabs are definitely on my Grail list. Most people want a childhood favorite. I want something that was a factory mistake or something such as the Galaga with a Ms Pac bottom piece. Something more than likely one of a kind.
