Hello, I am new to mame and am tired of having 10,000 game to choose from and only a few 1000 that actually work. Woah is me, lol...anyways. I have a modded xbox in a cabinet and there a so many games in there that don't work. Sometimes it freezes and I have to turn the whole cab on and off to get it going again. Gets annoying, especially when guests are over. Is there a way to go in and erase all of the games that don't work. I only have 8 way sticks, no trackball, or driving stuff, or anything....I also know none of the stv or newer bigger games work in here. I am totally ok with that and just want them off of the menu. Again, it's a modded xbox. I'm running xecuter2 w/ avalaunch and mame is MAMEox128plus. I really was hoping there was something I could do to get rid of all of the games that didn't work without testing and deleting each rom...as last time I did that I erased the wrong file and no games would work :( Yeah, like I said...noob to mame and all of this stuff and the guy who worked on it has become very unreliable and I am not sending it off to him again.
if anyone has any idea...or maybe someone lives in the Northern Bay area and could come take a look...I would really appreciate it. I'd either toss some cash your way or get the beers and bbq going for you and a guest or something if wanted to come up and help out. Also willing to take you out fishing/crabbing or wine tasting out on Dry Creek Road (my other two hobbies).
thanks
Eric
again, sorry if this is a stupid question or there's an obvious answer. I'm new, lol.

Read the help file on 'roms'. Look at clrmamepro.

where would I find the help file for this? I know on mame32 I could just run something that would check all of the roms and make a list out of the working games. Can I do that on my xbox.
Again, I am totally new to this. I am not computer savey. I am not going to be able to hook my xbox up to a pc and run stuff back and forth etc..Or run programs off of my computer to change things within the xbox. I am looking for something easy. If there's no easy way...that's fine too. I'll just take a month and go through erasing each game that doesn't load up :'(

maybe one day, I'll get my XBOX sorted out too. I have not tried to test games that won't work in it. But anyway, I am thinkg about using the File Manager and delete the ROMS that don't work (at least when this game is choosen, you won't need to turn it off) and maybe there is a LIST that you can EDIT and remove the lines for the non-working games.

yeah, that looks to be my only option right now. Going in and taking games out one by one. I was just hoping there was an easy way to scan the whole lot and make a menu of working games. But, I'll do what I have to...at least as long as it's something I think I am capable of doing. It's just going to take a lot longer, lol.

xbox MAME is based around MAME 0.84.
If you've picked up a newer romset, you'll want to grab clrmamepro
http://www.clrmame.com/
and use it to rebuild your set down to 0.84, but you'll need a 0.84 .dat file to do it with.
Somewhere on my drive at home, I have a .dat file that I built based off 84 and then knocked out all the mahjongers and all the games that refused to run on 64mb of memory.
I'll post that tonight if I can remember to do so.
As a bonus side effect, all the games remaining are less than 4096 zip files, so everything fits into a single directory on the hard drive.

here ya go:

Now you just have to learn how to use clrmamepro. :)
