Title: MAME PC Power on Switch
Post by: Beaps on September 20, 2008, 11:31:12 am
Hi All,

I have stripped my PC and put it in my cab but I want to create an external button to switch on the PC.

The power button is a press pad but I was wondering if there was a way to mod it?

Any ideas?

thats just a plain momentary switch (usually found/used in laptops). You can just solder a wire with a regular momentary switch (like a pushbutton on your CP). If you want to, you can take that switchpad off before soldering the wire.

you can trace it underneath. If you want, take the button off......There are only 2 connections in there. If you look at the bottom of the board, you can usually see and solder from there.

Take a pic at the bottom.

test the continuity (Multimeter) on those solder points. Press the button to see which 2 of those are CLOSING (Shorting) and that would be the 2 point you need to solder a wire.
From the pic, I can't tell if those 4 points are to secure the pad.

I did one of this on a Laptop, it is really easy to do. Just need to get yourself a meter and test the continuity to see which of the 2 points you neeed to wire up.

I will have to buy a Multimeter I guess - the 4 solder points are for the actual button :-(
