Title: tv resolution problem.. or somthing...
Post by: clickhea on September 19, 2008, 03:21:20 pm
i have my comptuer hooked up to the tv via svideo.

for some reason, the picture comes in "clear" but its very jumpy looking.  it looks like the windows on the screen are jumping or vibrating i should say.. any idea why?

iam in 800x600

it seems like higher resoultions stop this, but then i cant see anything

Something to do with the refresh rate or horizonal sync perhaps?

I had to play with these settings (luckily my TV had them) to get a sharp picture at 800x600.

It's called interlace flicker and it happens because your video card is having to convert and send a 480 line interlaced signal to the TV.  One way around it is to blurr things up as you've discovered.  Some video cards have a 'flicker reduction' setting which simply does exactly that.  While this makes Windows appear less flickery, it makes games look worse (IMO).    You can also try a higher resolution to blurr in windows only and then use 640x480 for games for a sharper picture.
