trying to get the desktop to display on a Neo Geo candy MVS cab via ArcadeVGA2 (PCIE) to a JPAC using a Lenovo M series PC. I've been through EVERY driver installation possible (including forced safe mode install) with Andy at Ultimarc (poor guy is prolly sick of me, thanks Andy) on BOTH Vista and now XP Pro SP2. But I STILL get the following that starts the minute windows tries to load:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ema1SGnK0
Yes, I have done everything I know to disable onboard video, 'PCI' is clearly chosen in the BIOS, and Device Manager shows the card is installed, powers my PC monitor fine (I ONLY get picture on MVS cab when solely the MVS monitor is connected).
Thing is I get the SAME above picture whether drivers are installed or not on the arcade monitor, NOT true for PC monitor.
The way the JPAC light blinks & 'clicks' its almost as though its a sync problem, it sounds like its trying to sync up but cant. Do I need to experiment with different refresh rates in XP? INCLUDING syncs shown not compatible? Dont wanna blow my PC monitor, or the MVS for that fact.
Could it be the monitor thats the issue? The cab IS a Japan import, the monitor is a nice Hitachi.
Help please guys, I really need it, I have a date this weekend & she wants to play Donkey Kong on the cab :applaud:
:dunno :dunno :dunno
Any help appreciated

the monitor in that cab is probably a nanao ms9,have you checked its set to 15khz on the frequency jumper
-
Thanks grantspain, if you mean the jpac jumper, yes I have tried 15 khz and 31 khz jumper settings with no results, the green LED only lights on 25khz, and the boot screen is visible perfectly as above. UNLESS should I change the refresh rate in Windows?
This whole thing is REALLY frustrating, whatever signal the cab/monitor is getting from the PC on boot is evidently the right frequency. I mean, if this monitor were not compatible, I wouldnt get such a clear boot screen, correct?
Anybody else?
Thanks guys

no i am talking about the frequency jumper on the monitor chassis, the other thing you need to check is what sync you have connected
first things first, you need to id the monitor.either take a photo of the monitor chassis or use www.jomac.net.au

I remember reading that some Neo Geo cabs have a slightly different jamma pinout, maybe yours isnt wired to the normal jamma on the JPAC? I would get a jamma pinout diagram and follow each wire from the harness to see if its connected correclty for the jpac.

Thanks guys
grantspain - you're right, in the process now of looking for possible jumper & doing a pic of chassis
topless - I was wondering about this, BUT it looks like RG & B pinouts are the same for both, as seen on this PDF:
http://www.hardmvs.com/manuals/Jamma2NeoGeo4SlotPinout.pdf
Cant help but wonder if this adapter would be a quick fix:

Thanks again guys

neo geo mvs use a combined vertical/horizontal sync

neo geo mvs use a combined vertical/horizontal sync
which means to do what?? Sorry to be dense:) :dizzy:

on some monitors to get a neo geo motherboard to lock the picture you needed to link the horizontal and vertical sync at the video input plug of the monitor chassis.
if you are running a pc then you only need the horizontal sync connected
heres where thing may get confusing :o
if it is a nanao or sanwa monitor then if you are running a pc you will almost certainly need a video amp or you picture will roll and the colours/brightness will be low
if it is a nanao or sanwa then if the monitor frequency jumper plug is set to 24khz then you will never get it to lock unless you introduce a 24khz signal
all will be revealed when you supply a photo

what game board was running on this cab before you mamed it?
-
a Neo Geo 4 slot board.............
what game board was running on this cab before you mamed it?
-
ok neo geo is a 15khz game so if the picture was good then there is no monitor problem here
what i don't understand is why your 24khz led is lighting up
one thing very important to note-neo geo 4 slot are not jamma, you need to move some wires on the edge connector

would the above adapter do the trick? I really dont wanna alter the harness as I am a Neo purist & still wanna use my 4 slot board sometimes
Pic coming soon (we still need it, right?)

My Impress is composite sync and I have no trouble via the JPAC with jumpers on 15 and 31khz using soft15khz. I'm thinking this is the old 'what resolution is your desktop at' deal. Disconnect the arcade monitor. Fire it up with your PC monitor connected to the PC port of the card (DVI output*) and then switch the desktop resolution to something the arcade monitor can handle, say, 336x240. Your PC monitor should shut off. Then connect the cable from the JPAC to the AVGA and turn on the arcade monitor. Should display.
* Yes a VGA adapter will be fine on it; if you don't have one, then just run straight from the VGA port and then swap cables in the mid-step above.

Thanks guys
Ummon - just tried a lower resolution, thing is no matter what resolution I choose on the PC monitor, it never goes off/out of range, does that mean something? Is it worth a shot to try EVERY resolution available? Is it worth a shot to try soft 15khz instead of the Ultimarc software?
The arcade monitor - very hard to get quality pics, lots of cords, etc. The sticker info:
Hitachi Monitor - manufactured by LG electronics
Type A68LFP227X
Serial 60400308

Any ideas? GOD this is frustrating

UPDATE
what a pisser
Instead of running this Lenovo with AVGA2, I booted up my old Dell running an old MAME & Invidia FX5500, downloaded soft15khz, rebooted to arcade monitor via JPAC, and BAM I'm getting the desktop on the monitor, kinda hazy quality, BUT the JPAC jumpers are set to 25 mhz, and I had set soft15khz to 15khz, not 25. Should I run the JPAC jumpers at 15khz & match that in soft15khz? or JPAC set at 25 & soft matching that?
BUT the Lenovo is what I wanted, but all this makes me wonder if I am really getting those drivers in there, I've tried EVERYTHING. Hell, I may just load soft15khz on there & put a different card in there, see if it works.
Thanks guys

its a toei chassis,i have not worked on those,i am sure this is not a monitor problem-this down to how you have set things up
why do you have the 25khz jumper installed?it should be set to 15k
maybe you have a faulty avga card
-
Good to know, thanks!
You mean the 25khz jumper on the JPAC? Its not, its set at 15, was just experimenting. BUT are you saying the monitor is set at 25? Hope not.
Emailing Andy now about sending the card in for inspection
Thanks again
Lee

the monitor will not be set at 24khz as it would not have worked with the neo geo mobo

Really helps to read all the info on devices before you use them. If you don't understand what's said, read it again, stop a spell and let it stew, maybe read again. Don't use the devices till you understand what's being said.
