Title: Using Mouse button in MAME as a Pause button
Post by: GameDork on September 17, 2008, 06:52:27 pm
I have a JPAC with 6 buttons per player (2 player) a HAPP 2 1/4" TB with serial harness. I have 2 buttons hooked to the serial harness of the trackball. I have them recessed into the bottom of the CP so no one will find them.

I thought I could use one of the buttons as a pause button so I set the pause as mouse button 1 and whenever I hit pause in game it works perfect but I CAN"T unpause the game!!

What gives??

You're using an older version of mame that releases the mouse so it can be used by other apps when paused.  Just like you used to not be able to remap the mouse when paused.

The current version of mame half releases it, so it can be used in other apps but it also works in mame while paused.

That's my guess.  What version # are you using?

AHa, that makes sense.. I'm using v.86

Is there anything I can do besides update my mame?

Nothing clean. :-\

Dual wire the button to both the mouse & the keyboard?
Swap the wiring with one of the top buttons, so the hidden one uses a key and the top uses the mouse?
