Title: Already made lists?
Post by: Malenko on September 16, 2008, 05:18:42 pm
ok so I wanna put MALA on the MAME cab and ditch MAME32.
I had it on there but I had to cycle through 1 game at a time.......

instead of going through and making my ownlists I was wonder if there was a place to already get them?
I basically wanted a bunch of selectable lists separated by Genre and removing clones.

I figured why re-invent the wheel if someone else already made the list?

A really nice program I used was RomLister - dont have a link.

You pick things like vert/horz, buttons, genre, etc, and it actually exports straight to a MaLa gamelist.  You can also pick master/clones here if you wish.

Yeah RomLister is totally the way to go - found here
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/

To save you a bit of time however, i've upped my gameslists here..

seeing i've got a 3 sided cocktail table i made lists for both horiz and vert games.

enjoy  ;)

Just to reiterate WHY you don't see a lot of pre-made lists out here is that all of our machines are pretty custom.  I have a cocktail, vertical only, with 3 buttons and a U360 for each player.  My lists aren't going to do much good for you if you have a horizontal, 6 button machine with a dedicated 4way and a trackball...

So, romlister (thanks for the plug!) comes in quite handy for making lists that match the controls to your machine.

I understand that but Im sure there has to be at least one other person out there with an 8way and 6 buttons per player.  I tried to use ROMLister but it didnt work as expected. I picked 8ways 6 buttons(or less) Fighter and got a list of like 35 games. No mortal Kombats, no SvC chaos, missing alot of the CPS2 fighters, etc  so then I tired again with sports and got a list of like 8 games; no Open Ice, no NBA Jams, no Run n Gun,etc, etc

Post your -find text here and we'll see what went wrong.

This is what I used: upright, 8-way, 6 buttons or less, fighter, playable are the only check boxes set.

copy-n-paste these into your -find line.  make sure the spacing is still there between all the | and & 's
Code: [Select]
(buttons=6 | buttons=5 | buttons=4 | buttons=3 | buttons=2 | buttons=1 | buttons=0 | !buttons=) & (joy8way | !'control type=') & !(joy2way | joy4way | 49-way | triggerstick | top-fire | rotary

Code: [Select]
| doublejoy8way | dial | trackball | pedal | lightgun | 'analog stick') & !emulation=preliminary & (fighter) & !('ball & paddle' | 'BIOS' | breakout | casino | climbing | driving | maze | minigames

Code: [Select]
| mature | misc. | multiplay | pinball | platform | puzzle | quiz | rhythm | shooter | sports | tabletop | wrestling)
and I ended up with 653 games, including all the mortal kombats.
I switch the genre over to sports and I'm seeing 2on2 open ice and NBA jams, I got 303 games total.

Maybe you've restricted region to USA only?  That can make a severe reduction in games.

edit: whoa, sorry about the width of the thread now!
