How do the newer gun games that doen't flash the screen when you press the trigger physically work.
I understand the technology behind light guns... (get white flash... count the time that it sees it... it then calculates the time and refresh... done).
Do they send out a sound like the 3d joystick thingy (I should know it... I have one... They are SOOOO close to being a great solution)
Or is it something completely different
thanks!

shameless bump...
nobody knows?

I've never seen any gun games that didn't produce a flash. The newest I've seen is Time Crisis 3, and even that produces a flash. What games are you thinking of?
Of course, there's also the immobile flashless machine gun, used in Terminator 2, Revolution X, Gunblade, and others. Those are actually analogue joysticks with gun shaped handles.

I didnt' think timecrises and the virtual games did. I might not have been paying attention.... The new jurasic park game doesn't I don't think...
am I wrong? checking out klov to see.
(and no, I'm not talking about the machine gun games.)

Time Crisis 2, Virtua Cop 2, and Jurassic Park 2 all had a flash. A subtle flash, but a flash nonetheless. I haven't played the third installment of any of them, but according to KLOV, Jurassic Park III uses an "infrared sensor." I'm not sure what that is, but I would guess that's the same thing used with the Super Scope on SNES.

I started typing my last post before you posted that link. Really.

There's that fire fighting game without flashes, IIRC.

I just posted how this is done in the other BYOlightgun thread. They use IR LEDs and IR sensors. Look closely at Sega's Confidential Mission next time you are in the arcade. Also note, in the game there is a special mode you can activate where it throws up a simulated laser site that is totally wicked (because there is no flashing of the screen they can do this)!
