Title: Just bought my first dedicated cabinet, couple of questions
Post by: stephenp1983 on September 14, 2008, 06:50:52 pm
I found this Stun runner on craigs list for 200 bucks.  Everything works except the monitor.  The game comes on with sound and you can play it, you just can't see anything.  So my first question is what type of monitor should I look at for a replacement.  Second how hard would it be to play other yoke type games in this cabinet.  Say I picked up a star wars board, would it just be a matter of swapping out the boards, or are other modifacation required.

Here are some pictures from my blackberry, not very good but you get the idea:

You could swap the monitor with a working one of the same size, but most of us attempt to repair the monitor first. Sometimes a problem is as simple as a popped fuse, or a disconnected wire...

As for playing other games, not a chance. Star Wars for one uses a VECTOR monitor, and other games just aren't designed for a quick swap in that one.

Good score though.

So really for a replacement anything here would work http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/monitors_wg.htm ?  I've always heard not to mess around with repairing monitors due that it could be dangerous.  I'd rather just find a replacement, as the previous owner already had a tech out they confirmed it was a bad monitor.

You could possibly put a Hydra pcb in there, controls are very similar..You would need to make a jamma adapter since hydra is jamma and Stun Runner is not.I would look into buying a replacement chassis.  If its a K4900 then you can buy a brand new wei ya chassis for about 75 bucks shipped on ebay.  Thats better than buying a brand new monitor for 150 - 200 shipped.  Thats if you dont want to repair yours.
