Title: Joystick Q's
Post by: crashdmj on June 11, 2003, 09:54:05 pm
Can you change the P360's handle to say a ball-top?
Also is there a way to make the t-stick springs looser?

yes you can... I believe if you use the 4" length wico ball tops shafts they fit very well (i'd have to dig up an old thread to show you) (or get the replacements from that ebay guy)

you can probably replace or stretch out the spring in the t-stick I imagine... to adjust the feel...
*shrug*

What ebay guy!  ;D

Wouldn't stretching out the spring make it tenser?

Got me there (but it *would* change the feel, no?) I guess you could cut some of the length of the spring then...

digging up link... *BAM!* linkage to balltop discussion (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=7054;start=msg53387#msg53387)

EDIT: here's another thread of interest (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=6294;start=0) and although it's talking about the e-stick discussion on replacing stiff spring (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=7589;start=msg54830#msg54830)

while we're discussing this... oscar -> can one use 3.5 inch ball tops in p360's instead of the 4" ers?

Thanks Rampy, now I have some research to do.
Derek

edit* And Oscar if you can use the 3.5 or the 4" ball tops, which do you prefer and which feels more precise.
Thanks
Derek

The only real difference between the 4" & 3.5" handles is that the 4" handles are better suited for wood control panels.  You could get away with the 3.5" handles in a wood control panel, but even after routing out for a 3/8" mounting depth they will probably be a bit on the stubby side, kinda like a Pac-Man stick.  Performance-wise, I don't think there is much difference... unless the short 3.5" stick feels uncomfortable to you, then that may hamper your action on it.  Personally, I wouldn't use the 3.5" sticks for a wood control panel on a multi-purpose cabinet where you will be playing a variety of different games.

Ok I emailed the guy from n2new@aol.com, and he will sell me 4 Wico 4" ball-top handles (can't wait). I ordered one red, blue, green and yellow to match my buttons. Now I just need to decide on a marquee and CP artwork hmmm....
Thanks Oscar and Rampy

edit* So it's basically just put the Wico shafts in instead of the P360s and play Oscar?

As Oscar says the 4" handles are generally preferable if you're mounting in wood. However if you increase the length of a joystick's shaft you also increase its throw slightly. And this will also cause the spring (or grommet) to feel lighter. So a 3.5" shaft will feel very slightly different to a 4" one.
