What do you guys think? It's got some pretty cool graphics, but could it be used as an effective touch screen??
-
I would say no since you can't type anything to do a seach and scrolling would be a pain since the scroll bars are to small for a touch screen. Now if you could change that it would be great but I don't think you can.
-
You could sort the keyboard issue out using a virtual keyboard however the scroll bars and button sizes would remian an issue. If only there was an easy way to impliment cover flow in VB :dunno
-
I've been playing with it now for about 6 Hours total and i gotta say it's pretty cool. The genius feature has put me in touch with a lot of music i had forgot about. The way the have the albums and Genres setup is great to. Too bad we can't alter it or recreate to to work for a touchscreen. That would be Graphically...AWESOME

OK ...... maybe I'm just clueless on the Itunes stuff since I just don't care for it much.
But none-the-less I was still interested in checking this out, but is this just Itunes software you guys are talking about? I couldn't find much to do about any touchscreen aspect on it.
Could ya post a link ?
-
just iTunes....we are saying it would be great if you could modify it to work with a touch screen but the buttons are to small
-
Ah ... kinda what I thought, just wanted to clarify.
So do you think the buttons would be too small on say a 17" touchscreen still?
-
From personal experience yes. I think the reason ITUNES Software keeps coming up is the Cover Flow. The IPHONE proved that is a nice interface on a touchscreen, it just needs to be replicated. I am wondering if i could do it or something simular uing GDI+ but it might be too slow. Direct X would be the best way but i wouldn't know where to start with that really.
EDIT:
I will look at doing this with GDI Wap Paths or Transforms... If i can do it i am more than happy to share the code so Uncle T or any other VB Juke authors can use it. Just don't hold your breath GDI+ is new to me.
Thinking about it drawing the static image with the skewed covers should be ok, animating it will be the issue and where it might end up being too slow.
-
I haven't tested it out, since I never use Itunes. But I assume it the Cover Flow scrolling feature in Itunes? I do a similar in MultiFE just doing horizontal instead of vertical. But MultiFE is also a OpenGL application and not GDI.
The major problem was the coverarts loading, which can been a bit slow. I fixed that so it only load coverats when you stopped scrolling, so it diddent feels sloppy.
Sk-Jukebox have a pageflipping "animation", its a bit fake, but its works very well.
I also think Itunes was designed with mouse and keyboard and not touchscreen in mind?
-
Cover flow is something totally different than what you are thinking....

It's like that but with album covers.
-
ahh, sorry. This might need some direct3D programmering for speed. I guess it also use a scrollbar too for faster navigation?
I mean I have seen a jukebox application here at BOYAC that used this feature, but cant remember what it was. I guess it was a Linux based software, but not sure.
I havent have any plans doing that in MultiFE, since I use tables.
-
Yeah ideally it would be using some sort of acceleration.

eJukebox (http://www.audiosoft.net/) has this as an upcoming feature called Shelf3D

Looks nice. But again i don't know if it would be good with a touchscreen because there are a lot of small buttons. Can these be changed i looked at the skins but they just seem to alter the colours.

Behind my Bar, I have a 15" touchscreen mounted flush in the wall running iTunes 8; Powered by a hidden MacMini [with bluetooth]. Scrolling isn't difficult. When typing is needed, I have a Bluetooth Keyboard (& Mouse). Most times I have a playlist dialed in for the theme of the evening and the search function never comes into play. Just my 2 cents.

That is fine if you are just using it for playing background music. However i find when i use mine at parties people want to search for tracks and play around with the box. I suppose it all depends what you want the jukebox to do.

thanks

Here is a plugin I just found that turns iTunes into a touchscreen jukebox.
-
have you gus tried jriver media center in teather mode, you can set the covers to a feature called showroom and have them show in 3d flying wall of music, awsome feature, way better than the coverflow, and it can be used on a touchscreen as jukebox, built in feature no need for external skins.

Has anyone given that a shot?
I spent countless of hours on sorting my music and gettung the artwork for a pleasing Album Player experience. I guess Itunes in general is much easier to handle...So this plugin sounds compelling to me.

take a look at a media player a guy on the net made called glimmer media player.
Glimmer Media Player (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nSU6_6GCkY#)
it runs like itunes with the album flow, but was designed for the mimo 7" touchscreen.
have been trying it and it works really nice, it has the ability also to rip cd's, play internet radio and a lot more.
The only thing that it does not do that for this purpose is a downfall is that creator did not put anything in it for playlist playing for setting up a queue. I have emailed him, but maybe if just more than me does he may be able to tweak it.
well worth a look.
-
installed glimmer player today.looks good but the only down side to it is when you add an album it duplicates it.

hmm i didn't experience that, will try again and see. the 2 things i would like to see on it is 1.volume control on main screen rather than digging into a menu for it. 2. ability to create a queue. I have been running it on shuffle and thats ok, but it really needs queuing capability.
My plan is to wall mount a mimo screen and have it do sound in all the rooms of the house.

when you click on a file to add to it it copies the file and puts it in the folder.
anyway now im having problems with the program.when i start it up, it tries to build the music library a message comes up saying (music player exe has stopped working). i have uninstalled it then reinstalled it and the same thing keeps happening.
pity because it is a nice easy program to use.
