Okay people...this one is brought to us by friend at Evil Avatar. It's a debate that has been going strong for many years. It has brought leaders to their knees and whole countries to turmoil! It has pitted brother against brother and Mother against Daughter. That's right, we're talking about...WAFFLES VS. PANCAKES! Take you sides and make your argument...LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!
-
Waffles.
As for pancakes, "Don't sit next to Dennis"
-
Waffles are much more superior to Pancakes. They are indeed for the elite population! Pancakes...not so much...
-
potato pancakes own hard
-
Depends on the waffles and pancakes. I generally prefer waffles, but a local restaurant I occasionally go to for breakfast has amazing pancakes and okay waffles, so I always get the pancakes.
-
"Poffertjes" are superior to both.
-
Waffles with strawberries, bananas, whipped cream and REAL Vermont syrup. own.

See...pancakes are for the lazy and the unmotivated...waffle people...far more superior...LOL
No Offense BobbyG66...I'm just passionate about my waffles...
-
uh, yea, that's what I said... :-\

Considering a good pancake or waffle is the same batter with a different shape, the only thing up for debate is the shape. In that case, waffle wins hands down.
When I was a kid, I would toast and Ego and fill all the holes with sauce. Then I could walk out the door and eat it on the way to school. Try that with a pancake. With pancakes, all the syrup drifts off to the plate and you have to mop it up, resulting in uneven dispersal of the syrup.
-
You prepare the batter different for pancakes or waffles. Also, waffles get more crisp and done than pancakes.

You must not be 'frying' your pancakes in bacon fat & butter, then. ;D

You're thinking "bacon" in a different sense. Think more like a Cannuck would.

The bacon IS fried first (not to a crisp, but still). Then you add the batter, wait for it to dry on top and flip over. Spread sugar syrup (similar to maple syrup) over it, roll up and eat.
The picture is not entirely how a pancake I would make would look like, but it's the best I could find. It really is the ultimate combination of sweet and bacon.

Well, all I can say is YUM. Sounds delicious.

They are two different culinary items. Waffles have a more refined taste and texture...pancakes are flat pieces of sweet bread that soak up syrup. Waffles are by far the superior food!

What about a pancake with chocolate syrup on top, topped with a waffle with maple syrup, topped with bacon? Sounds good to me, dont know about what it would do for my health tho ;)

The word "fly" seems to make a comeback every 15-20 years. When I heard her use the word I couldn't help but think of the Fly Girls from In Living Color, although I'm sure a number of people here remember the word from the 70's

Now as for bacon. I should be a food group all it's own. Here is an idea for you health conscious folks out there.

1. I don't own a waffle iron
2. Don't make me sneak into your house at night, install a steal chastity belt on you, and then throw away the key. You cant be much of a man if you have zero access to "little mister" ;) *ebil grin*
BTW, Doughboys (for those of us in the northeast who know what one is) trumps pancakes and waffles hands down!

Geez that picture of poffertjes makes me crave some. Too bad they don't sell them in parks (etc) anymore.

When I was younger I used to love pancakes but now I really can't stand them as they just get too soggy if they sit for more than a couple minutes. I just love waffles and have a Belgian waffle-making machine.

theyre like little pancakes, they taste nice and outside of holland i couldnt say, though i do know a guy who has a poffertjes van in south wales but thats probably not much help. ;)

The only good waffles come from Belgium. All the others are fakes. 8)
EXACTLY! Waffles are far superior because when made right, they crisp up a bit which allows them to hold the syrup and butter that is placed on top without getting mushy and soggy like a pancake does. (Take a pancake and put your butter and syrup on, and in a matter of seconds it has become mushy, soggy, and basically digested).
With a waffle, you can put any topping you want on there and the waffle itself will hold up. Your imagination is your limit as to what you can do. With pancakes, you are limited by the physical properties of the material.
As for Begian Waffles, no "Belgian Waffle" you're going to find outside of Belgium will even come close. I have no idea how they can do it but when I spent a week in Brussles on a business trip, I ate them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They had the waffle stands on every corner, on every block, and in every place you could imagine. It was like the food carts you see around NYC. They were cheap, enormous, and so incredibly tasty. They would roll them up into a cone like shape surround by paper so it was easy to eat while you walked. They would then put the toppings in there and it was like food from heaven. I am so thankfull that I got the chance to go to Brussels and enjoy that fantastic meal. (The pomfrittes were also good as a huge tub of french fries and mussels is a nice meal). ;D

You can find recipes for poffertjes on the innernetz, but I guess without a special pan it will be hard to get them actually done and into the right shape.
:edit: Actually this recipe (http://dutchfood.about.com/od/dessertssweets/r/PancakePuffs.htm) claims you can make them without a special pan. It says to use two types of flour. Guess that's the original way of doing it, but I use only plain and that works fine.
The freak also puts whipped cream and strawberries on them (that's probably because the recipe was written by a woman). A real man eats poffertjes with proper butter and powdered sugar (as in the pictures above)

I dont know about the bacon fat but butter is a must and it must be about to burn so you get that incredible ridge of crispyness that forms on the outside of the top of your cake. then it is pancakes all the way man also it depends on if additives have been added to the batter or said waffle or pancake batter. as I mentioned in another thread pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin added to the batter makes it all good.

You're still left with a soggy piece of bread though! Waffles are the way to go! I believe that waffles are the perfect food. They can be savory, sweet and they're good for teething kids...perfect!
