Title: MAMEWAH v0.951b Released!
Post by: Minwah on June 11, 2003, 07:19:59 pm
This one is mainly a bug-fix, with a few improvements.  In particular, merged romsets now work (to an extent) and the (M.A.M.E.) games list can be generated without a DAT file.  Please see the attached whatsnew's for more details.

This should please 50% of you...sorry Win98 users, I haven't been able to address those problem issues yet.

Everyone who is using v0.95b should grab this tho, get it here: http://mamewah.mameworld.net :)

Have you heard from anyone using Windows Me to see if they are having the same problems as Windows 98?

No, not specifically.  I suspect ME would suffer similar probs...

Have you tried this version yet colonelsnow?  I just had an email from another user - this version has fixed his slow-changing-lists/emu's problem.  What's it like on yours?

I asked MINWAH this by e-mail but he doesn't have a WIN98SE machine and since I recently figured out you were all posting here I thought I would ask here as well.

I cannot exit MAMEWAH through the menu.  Is this just me?  I have to exit via task manager which is a pain.

What happens is I hear my exit WAV and then nothing happens, this regardless of whether windows task switching is on or off or whether or not I have an exit sound on or off.

I didn't have this problem at first with MAMEWAH 95 but thjen one day it started, this new version 95b1 has not made a difference.

Obviously I have done something here - does anyone else have this problem?  If so how did you fix it?

Win98SE
ArcadeVGA
MAMEWAH95b1 (same issue on 95B and I may have had it awhile on 90 but it sort of fixed itself).

What is this problem you speak of?  I am running Mamewah on WindowsME and might have it?

DLing the new version now and will reply with any problems....besides my lack of joystick control problem  ;D

oh, about those "problems"... I don't have them.

I overinstalled over the last version of MAMEwha... I am running Win 98 with no probs... MAMEWAH is already a part of my cab...

Well, after installing the new version, I've haven't found any dramatic bugs yet.

On another high note, I downloaded a new version of my gamepad drivers and now my keymapping works properly. :D

I still think you should keep direct gamepad/joystick control as an idea for a future version though Minwah.  But now that I have my gamepad working, no rush  ;D

I am particularly glad  ;D

How quick does it change lists now?  I did change a very small piece of related code, but I thought it would have zero or less impact.

It's made my day if that worked  ;D :D :)

I just tried out 0.951b on Win98SE and it does take less time to switch game lists from large lists.  Switching from the full list (almost 4000 games) takes about 3 seconds now.  Still noticeable, but much better than before.

Didn't try anything else yet, but just wanted to let you know.

Thanks, Minwah!

OK, I decided it was time for me to come out of the dark ages and upgrade from version 895.  So I installed versions 95 & 951 last night in a new directory to get a full install.
It looks like most of the issues that kept version 90 from running on my CAB are fixed.  I do still have one problem though.  It won't let me exit to windows after playing a game.  When I select to exit it plays the sound bite but doesn't actually do anything?!?
It's a Win98SE install.
Does anyone else have this issue?  Is there a fix for it?

This front end has come a long way from the version I'm currently running, and I'd like to get caught up :)

One other user does have this problem Bill...does it do the same if you do not use an exit sound clip?  Also, are you using MP3's?

I think this is another Win'98 only bug, I'm gonna setup an old '98 PC soon, so I will investigate this while I'm at it.

Glad the game list switching is quicker for you too dknight...I'll see if there's anything else I can do to improve it further  :)

One bug to report:

Using 951B and WinXP. When I try to type c:\nes\snap\?_02.png into the "'Artwork #1 Filename to Replace with Romname" and press enter, the ? disappears from the path.... I found a work-around by opening the config file and entering the correct path, and saving. From there on everything worked great.

Well spotted...I added a routine to remove non-allowed characters from filenames / paths.  Of course I forgot about this eventuality...I'll fix it for next time :)

I don't know if others have reported this.  I have seen this issue with both versions of v.095.  While attempting to generate a custom list based on filters, I immediately receive a Error # '9' - Subscript out of range error.

I suspect it may have to do with my catver.ini file.  I have tried most everything I can think of.

Any suggestions?

I have the same error; it is the only bug I get. When you re-enter MAMEwah is the list generated? Mine is.

No - my custom list remains blank.  This is the only bug I have as well.  I am using Windows 2000 Pro if that makes a difference to anyone.

A few people are having this bug, I thought it was just in Win98, but 2000 as well it seems.  It all works fine on XP.  I'll be looking into fixing it soon :)

As amazing as it is if anything now it moves too fast!. One button press at times advances two emulators.

I was just troubleshooting a little more.  I still have the problem if I do not use an exit sound clip.  Everything works fine if I don't use any sound clips though.  I can come and go from MAMEWah as many times as I want without sound.  Also, the menu navigation is a lot slower when I use sound.  I don't know if that helps, but I have to move the joysttick and wait a second each time when  I use the sound.  When I use no sound the joystick keeps up pretty well.
One more, no - I'm not using MP3's.

Now that I got through that exiting issue I am booting into the latest MAMEWAH.  Thanks for the layout designer, that makes customizing the appearance real nice!

I can't figure out how to use the P1 buttons 1 & 2 (ctrl&alt) to add a game to the favorites list...  I press these buttons when a game is highlighted in the Main list and nothing happens... Any ideas?
Thanks,
JD

This shortcut is no longer...the 'Favorites' list has also gone, in favour of 'Custom Lists'.  If you go into 'Games List Options' you can 'Add Game to Custom List' - rename the list to 'Favorites' and you can achieve the same thing (as the old system).

I hope to add some sort of shortcut key back at some point.

I'm using mamewah 951B and WinXP and I also get the # '9' - Subscript out of range error, this only happens when using  anything but romfolder to generate a games list, I also got this error when filtering clones from a full custom list , It generated about 20 games then fell over. This could be a bug on all windows versions.

Thanks Cave, I think your right...I had another report of the issue on XP a day or 2 ago.  I wonder why I haven't had it happen yet!??

I have no problem in Win2K or Win98SE with MAMEWAH in the startup folder using an ArcadeVGA.

I have tried 640x288 and 640x480 in MAMEWAH but I leave my desktop resolution on 640x480 unless it changes itself occassionally.
