Title: Anyone seen these "mini" neo-geo cabs before?
Post by: retrometro on September 06, 2008, 07:30:23 pm
I always like going into arcades I've never been to before and checkout the cabs they have.  I ran into a couple of these mini neogeo cabs at a local strip mall today.  Everything's reduced size except for the buttons.  Are these legit MVS products? edit->  looks like they are legit.  neat.

Yes. They also have a cabaret sized machine that is woodgrain and typically referred to as a Gold. I have one, but its currently stripped down. Here is a pic of one...

Back when I was 10 or 12 there was one in my local arcade along with a full size 4 slot machine. It didn't last very long in that location but I always thought they were nice looking machines due to the small compact size. There is a guy on the forums that scratch built a Neo Mini. Look under restorations and you should find it.

Ha! Never even knew those existed, but exactly the same premise made me add the 'Mini' cab to our line-up: they're great for kids, don't take up as much space and have still got the same authentic shape of a full-size cab....

how tall is that? ive been debating starting a "mini" project but i wouldn't want anything bigger than 4 feet tall at tops

I like how you have the full 6 button layout on that cp, dosen't look too terribly cramped either

I like how the turnacade cabs have the buttons facing the players too.  Looks like a fun project to hook up consoles for the kids.

I have one. They are totally legit and awesome. When I actually got mine it was missing the Neo-Geo board and I have put in a MVS to Jamma adapter from Jammaboards.com

Right now I have "Super Puzzle Fighter" running in it, but the cabinet is awesome and I would never part with it. Even if I sold all of my other cabinets I would keep this, just for the fact that you can always find a place for one.

They are all about 50" tall (sides are 48", plus around 2" for the base/wheels), and around 20" wide (18.5" panel width plus 0.75" for each side panel). How deep you make it depends on how deep your monitor is. For example, the first has a wider base and shallow upper section (flat-panel monitor but not stood flat against a wall), the second has a shallow upper section with just a sloped front (same but stood flat against a wall), whilst the third is full depth to house the 17" CRT monitor.

Turnarcades, your diagram has me thinking again! Would be an interesting design to make a MAME that looks like a classic from the front, but is only a foot deep. Would need to be secured to the wall, but nice space saver! A row of them would still look authentic.  ;D

Those are sweet designs.  What kind of LCD's do you use?  Do you need an LCD with 8rms? or is 5rms good enough?

All these cool designs.  I just don't know what do go with but I am thinking I am heading in the lcd for a monitor to save confusion.

Thanks again for posting your cool designs.

Too bad you're in the UK.  I would be cool to see your showroom.
