Title: Mouse Buttons/trackball/spinner
Post by: BrianP on September 05, 2008, 05:44:42 pm
So I am looking for opnions for how to handle this.  I would like a trackball (1) and a spinner (1) on my control panel.  I would like the trackball to work as the mouse when I am in windows, and I would also like to have some buttons for the mouse buttons.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of good options for the mouse buttons.  Happ has a trackball which says supports mouse buttons for around $170.

Andy at Ultimarc indicated they don't have a solution for their trackball for the mouse buttons.

GGG has a trackball for about $120 (Electric ICE-T™ Deluxe RGB Arcade Trackball) and they have a cable for $10  which can handle the mouse buttons which I assume only works with the GGG trackball.  it gets a little cheaper if I don't bother with the LED stuff for it.

In a post here, Mike from Mike's Arcade gave me a link to a $18 cable they sell which converts a trackball to a USB with the buttons.

I have no idea which way to go.  I like the Ultimarc U-Trak (for ease of installation) and if it work's with the cable from Mike's Arcade, I might go that route.

Anyone used the Happ 3" or Ultimarc U-Trak or GGG's Electric ICE-T?  Preferance between one of the other?

What about spinners?  I am looking at the Ultimarc SpinTrak (I like the knobs) or the GGG TurboTwist 2 (which is cheaper but I dont' like the knobs as much) or the Happ SlikStik (I like the knobs but a bit more than the SpinTrak).  I will use either in USB mode, so I am not really worried about the connection (I would prefer to not have to buy a OptiPac or Opti-Wiz if I can avoid it).

Anyone used these spinners?  Perference between them?
Any opinions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I bought a USB Happ trackball with the button wires from Divemaster for a really good price. Check his thread in Buy/Sell/Trade.

I also bought a TT2 spinner from GGG by itself. I have both hooked up and they work with no trouble. Both plug and play with the buttons hooked up to the trackball.
