Title: Attack from Mars !
Post by: koolmoecraig on September 03, 2008, 05:04:52 am
I finally acquired one of my favorite games of all time.  If you haven't played one, you need to.  One of the best games ever.

I was going to do a full restoration but it is in such great original condition that I'm not going to mess with it.

That looks like its never seen an arcade, and been in someone's private collection.  Very nice!

So Cliffy made two different kinds of protectors?  Thick and thin????

So how cheap and from which actor did you get this one? ;)

Looks good either way!

Hahaaa!  I actually got it from a crew member on Grey's Anatomy.  It was on the studio lot, on the Grey's Anatomy set in his workshop room along with 4 other pins.(Funhouse and some 60's EM's)

He also threw in an extra playfield that's about a 7 of 10 condition-wise.  The one that's in the machine now only has minor wear up in front of the force field targets.  I might ship out the extra playfield to be restored and clear coated but I might just sell it, recoup some of my cost and leave the original.

I paid $3k with the extra playfield which I think is pretty much a steal.  I could get $600 for the playfield easy which would put me at $2400 for a super clean AFM.  I figure the machine itself is worth around $4k.

For Attack From Mars, he's made at least 3.

For awhile, he was selling them and they didn't have rounded corners.  The corners didn't even touch, so you have 3 flaps on your playfield.  Those things were horrible and should have never been sold.

Then he's got the thicker style.  Those work okay on some games, and really hurt others.  I was NOT happy with the way they played on Jurassic Park and other titles with scoops close to the flippers.

Now he's got the hyperthins.  They play better but don't offer as much protection.

Cliffy's a nice guy and has helped me out in the past... but I've never been crazy about the change in gameplay his protectors cause.

That outhole isn't really in an area that would effect game play really.  It's definitely the thicker one.  I'll probably swap it for the thin ones.

Looks good, I'd say you got a great deal for sure.

I would not really worry too much about the hole out, looks ok to me with the current protector.
